Playing Pelican Hill

North or South

A buddy and myself are going to be playing Pelican Hill over Easter and are wondering if anyone has any input on whether we should play the North or South course. I am sure both are excellent tracks but unfortunately we only have time to play one.

Either one. Exceptional facility. Bring your camera as it's breathtaking. The caddies are great.

Both are nice. South Course has the holes down by the ocean which is cool, but I think North is overall better. Pretty spectacular views on every hole. North is the longer/tougher of the two.

The holes on the North have more movement, more variety, and leave a more lasting impression. The 18th hole is a slight letdown. Views are nice, can see more of Newport Harbour as you're higher on the hill overlooking the ocean. The South's holes are for the most part, straighter but the par 3's are really good. You go right down to the edge of the bluffs on 12 and 13 and then finish strong with 18 being a fantastic hole. Great way to finish. Overall, South has better views, North has better holes.

North Course is going to be a little more wide-open, the South Course is tighter than the North. I hit driver on basically every hole off the tee on the North Course (except par 3's, of course), hit some fairway woods and hybrids off of the tee on the South Course. The South Course takes you closer to the water, so you'll get the great ocean views on 12 and 13 that are short back-to-back par 3's. The 18th hole on the South is a huge test, the 18th hole on the North is a bit easier. Both courses are awesome, you'll have a fun time.

Thanks for all the replies! We are playing a lot of other great courses on the trip so I think we are going to play the South just to get a little better view of the ocean...we don't get to see it very often being from Saskatchewan haha

I have the pleasure of calling Pelican Hill my home track, and like the other posters, I think you should strongly consider playing the North side. Views of the ocean from every hole (not the case on the South), and a much better golf course, imho. And if you're in the area for a few days, be sure to enjoy Crystal Cove state park (just below Pelican Hill) and enjoy the beach!

I think $275, somewhere around there. Both courses are good tracks.

Yes it is but this time of year they are overseeding and starting other maintenance so it's up to you....
