Refinish a Ping Anser 85068

Want to do this myself... Need Advice

Hello all. I bought a used Ping Anser 85068 putter on eBay and was wanting to know how I can refinish this myself. Not looking for museum like quality, just better that it currently is. Can I use the gun blue stuff?
Any help, advice and or instructions would be greatly appreciated!!!

That one will be easy to do. Doesn't look there is much damage to the putter. A buffing wheel using #3 and #6 buffing compounds, some steel wool, and some Birtchewood Casey Copper Darkener and it should look amazing.

choeppner: thanks so much for your help on this. I am wanting to give this putter as a gift for Christmas so I am hoping it will turn out nice.

concerning the copper darkener, what will the end result look like? Also, can I use the gun blue stuff to make the putter a very dark bronze?

Gun blue won't affect it at all since blueing is a controlled rust product. For a gift, I would actually go with a brighter finish. THE darkner will change it to about 4 shades brighter than it is right now. Youcan also try coking the putter for say an houuur then use a scotcbrite pad and see if youlike that color.

How do you think the coking would look - just curious...

 

Also, what would you do if it was yours and you were going to give it as a gift? I want the person to be able to use it.

I am assuming this is one of the Phoenix ones? I have one sitting next to me and its a great putter. It would work nicely for a gamer or a display piece. Mine has a darker finish or therefore lack of finish. I love it, but its a little light.
