Please help with driver swing

Hey Guys,

i've been playing golf for two years now and my current hcp is 17.0.

Until this week i have never seen my own swing on video thats why i'm asking you for some advice/thoughts on my swing.

 

I guess 60% of my drives are fades between 220 and 250 yards, 35% are slicing off the right side and 5% are random crap/pullhook.

 

I hope the videoquality isn't too bad.

 

 

 

 

Any advice on how to hit the ball straight or with a draw is much appreciated :D

legs are way too straight at address and throughout the swing (particularly the right).

golf is an athletic movement. would you throw a football with knees that are nearly locked out? hit a baseball with straight legs? shoot a free throw that way?

i'd say mcilroy and couples would be on the 'straight' side of leg flex, but they still have significantly more than you do.

i'd spend some time in a mirror fixing that. weight on the middle to balls of your feet. (but still able to lift toes)

i'd watch the following ~45 seconds in this video to give you a better idea how the (flexed) legs and hips coil in the backswing and uncoil in the downswing... [url="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=13byY9Lbr5g&t=13m38s"]http://www.youtube.c...9Lbr5g&t=13m38s[/url] your left side is really breaking down at the top of the backswing and swaying to your right. that'll put everything out of position and force you to come over the top nearly every time.

and i'd focus in the takeaway on not lifting your arms away from your body. the backswings initiated by the left shoulder going under your chin, which means your hands will come inside....and you'll have to exaggerate the heck out of it, because it's somewhat severe now. and it sets up your shoulder turn to be very flat, and some other balance stuff to be wrong. put a tee/glove/headcover under your left armpit and swing. right now it would fall out by the time you're 1/3 of the way into your backswing. good, connected players can sit there all day with nearly full swings while keeping that object pinched in there.

Hey tfish,

thanks alot for your advice. i never thought about my legs beeing too straight but now that you mention it, it is kind of obvious.
i guess that flexing the legs more will also allow the hips to turn better in the backswing.
definitly going to try this tomorrow on the range.

what exactly do you mean with "left side breaking really down" ?

im also definitly going to practice with a glove under the left armpit

guess i will be busy for the next few weeks ;D

Looks to me like you are hanging back and trying to swing it left a bit instead of getting up with the ball.
