Lake George Area Golf Courses

I'll be in the area for two days near the July holiday and I'm wondering which two golf courses I should play?

 

There seem to be two award winning ones:

 

The Sagamore

Saratoga National Golf Course

 

and some USGA ones:

 

Cronin’s Golf Resort

 

Queensbury Country Club

Top of the World

 

Hiland Park Golf Club

 

And some miscellaneous ones.

 

I was hoping some wrx'ers have played these courses before and can share their opinions. Thanks!

Saratoga national is a very very good layout. Conditions can go from great to very spotty. Heard early this year that they had a rough winter and the conditions were spotty because they hadn't grown in (played with Saratoga resident elsewhere). Pricey but well worth the play. I've played it 4-5 times now and I have to go a bit to play it.

Sagamore is also excellent from what everyone that has played it has told me.

How was the course at Saratoga National? If it's still not in good shape, I might as well save my money and play Saratoga Spa State Park.

[b]I played in Saratoga about 2 yrs ago. It was a public course about 2 miles down the road from Saratoga National (I actually ate lunch at Saratoga National - excellent food, awesome clubhouse). I wanted to play Sar.Nat. but I was pressed for time (I was there for a rowing regatta that my son was competing in during the afternoon) so I went to this other course that had a much better rate (I think it was around $40 for 18) - I was only going to play nine, but was done in about 1:20 so I played the back nine too... I think I finished in 3 hrs. flat - hence I was able to eat lunch at Sar.Nat.! The course was actually pretty cool with plenty of elevation changes and interesting holes. I don't remember the name off hand but it was the closest to the Regatta besides Sar.Nat.[/b]

I ended up playing The Sagamore and Saratoga Spa State Park. I don't think The Sagamore is worth the green fees it charges, but it is a nicer course than Saratoga Spa. I think $60-$70 would be a fair price.

Saratoga Spa is a nice public course, it's fairways are wide open, which is both a plus and a minus. The greens are deceptive in speed which makes it annoying, unless you play the course very often. But definitely worth the resident rate.

Next year, Saratoga National and Cronin's Golf Resort!

I played Saratoga National and Top of The World the year after Sagamore and Saratoga Spa. Top of The World was a cow pasture, but challenging. Saratoga National was in amazing shape and worth its steep price tag, unlike Sagamore.

Although I did not play it, I saw Saratoga National this past summer and it looked great. Top of the World near lake George is fun course, not expensive but a bit tight in many spots.

It played with me good.
