It doesn't have a weight in the grip section, the whole shaft is solid. It can be trimmed, it takes a good saw though.

Sorry....But whoever told you that....doesn't have a clue what they are talking about, and needs to research stuff more.

Yes, you can send it back to the company. A pro shop would not be equipped todeal with it.

Here's all the info on this putter:

The head of the Heavy Putter has a standard weight of 475 Grams, which includes the stainless steel “tip weights” (the cylinder shaped inserts) that come installed in the putter head. The optional tip weight kit includes aluminum tip weights which reduce the putter head weight to 450 grams, and copper tungsten tip weights which raise the putter head weight to 500 grams

The overall weight is approximately 900 grams (about 2 lbs.). A little more than half of the weight resides in the 475-gram head. The Heavy Putter’s patented Weight Management System™ provides another 250 gram metal weight installed in the grip end of the shaft. The remainder of the weight comes from the grip itself and the shaft

THIS IS NOT A HARD REPAIR IF THE SHOP HAS A RAZOR SAW. I HAVE DONE THIS REPAIR MORE THAN ONCE WITH NO PROBLEMS.PLEASE NOTE THAT APPROX 6 SWINGWEIGHTS POINTS WILL BE LOST TO THE LENGTH ADJ.

Just thought I'd throw this out there. Sure you might be able to do it with a razor saw, but you will also screw up the concept and structure of the putter. You will also lose more than 6 SW points as you are also removing 1" of the weight in addition to the shaft. The 6 SW Points would relate to a regular shaft being cut without the weight insert where the formula +/- .5" = +/- 3 SW points

Putters are my life. :crazy2: Normally what you said would be true, but the heavy putter is the exception to the rule due to the weight located in the butt of the shaft. By cutting off 1 inch of the weight, you would change the SW a ton due to the fact that you are removing basically 41 grams plus the gram weighting of the shaft since the weght is approx. 6 inches long. Going by the formula for the butt end of shafts you have 5 grams added or removed = change of 1 SW point.

The Heavy Putter has a big weight at the top of the shaft and the head is much heavier than normal too. The reason that they do this is that they want the head to have additional mass, but want the balance point/cg of the overall club to be around the same area that it would be for a normal putter. If you lop the end of the shaft off, you'll upset that end-to-end balance.

I bought one of the original B3 mallets used which was too long for me (35", I prefer 33"). I called them up and I believe that they will reshaft/regrip your club for a fairly nominal fee (I believe it was around $40+shipping or thereabouts), but this was probably a year ago (I never had it done).

By the way, I bought this as a training tool, but it's actually a very playable putter, as it really highlights when you're trying to influence the stroke with your hands. It feels deadly, stable, and (surprisingly to me) very soft feeling on short and medium putts. When you're really going for a long putt (40'+) I found it very hard to work with, and I don't think that this is a stroke problem, just way too much mass to deal with. I normally prefer a center shafted putter (B3 is heel shafted), so I never used this for play on any kind of regular basis.

I have pulled the lead plug from the handle with a heat gun, vice grips and a vice. I used to be a rep for heavy putter and one of my samples rattled and clanked every time you hit it or dropped it so I dissected the thing starting with the handle end. What I found was after pulling the weight and re-apoxying it into the shaft, the rattle went away. I slid a grip on it and voilla, I had a solid feeling putter again.

Once the weight was pulled, you could cut the shaft and re-install the weight if you wanted. It was not much work.
