Pebble Beach Planning Any Help and/or Advice would be much appreciated..

Myself and a friend of mine are seriously thinking about play Pebble mid October. We are actually looking into hotels right now. We do not have a tee time and i have heard that i can call a day in advanced and hopefully find a tee time. Ive also heard of walk-ons but we are a twosome so i know chances of us playing together are more slim that way.

Can anyone give your input as in how to go about to guarantee a tee time. We are going up Oct 12th - 14th. Trying to play that saturday and worst case sunday if Saturday was booked.

Im excited but than again will be really dissappointed if we go and not get on.

Any advice is helpful. thanks in advance

Are you able to play that Friday as well? The odds of you getting shut out 3 days in a row are pretty slim, especially if you are willing to split up and play as two singles. That said though, the Pebble Beach website is showing limited availability for those days, with the Friday and Sunday before you arrive having no availability. But still, you go out there, call and/or wait, you'll be able to get off one of those 3 days.

Have posted this many times elsewhere, but I have had luck two different times calling well in advance of one day without a hotel stay. Last time in the spring I booked about 10 days early. Just keep calling and be very nice and explain that you want to try to book earlier than 1 day in advance. This works really well for a single, maybe not so well for two.

No, or at least I did not pay in advance.

Yeah - also never heard of the pay in advance deal. They just give you a tee time...same as if you stay on the property, only they do it early. Again, this old trick works really well as a single. For example, the day I wanted to play, there were like 10 open single spots and a couple of open tee times, so it didn't really put them out to book me a week extra in advance. I had to call probably 5 times over a week to get them to do it though. Some of their folks were more receptive to the idea than others, so don't be suprised if you get a couple that tell you that it isn't happening no matter what. I think I had a guy tell me that and then I called back the next morning and got booked. With all of this said, the time before last, I was able to pull this off for a twosome, so I wouldn't say it's exclusive to singles.

Good luck! Book a caddie if you can afford it and whatever you do don't take a cart. It's such a great experience!

Thanks to you and all other responses. I played golf for over 12 years and this year I am hitting better than i ever have. I would fluctuate from mid 90's to low 100's but this year i am hitting mid 80's sometimes even low 80's. I told myself, if i can be in the 80's then it is time for Pebble. And if i can tell you guys how i am getting this round you would not believe it. Long story short, my two buddies amongst themselves had a bet on whomever hits a hole in one first, of course they had to be there to witness it, gets a round at Pebble. Well i happened to be playing with them one day and sure enough one of them had a hole in one. Anyways, a few months later, The son of the guy that won the round gave him a giftcard to pebble so he basically had two rounds and offered a round to me. He ended up playing last month on a walk on while there on vacation, but said he will still honor my round if i ever go.

Oh get this, i am going with my other friend, the one that was on the losing end of the hole in one. haha.
So yeah, i am definitely going to experience it for all its worth. Getting a caddie for sure. Just hope we can get on as a twosome. btw.. my friend doesnt know that my round was basically on him. I dont know if i should tell him.

If you are looking for a caddie ask for Jay. You will not be disappointed.

ill keep that him in mind. Can he help me get a tee time.

Update: I had to cancel the weekend of the 12th - 14th. i am instead going the weekend of 26th- 28th. Looks like the pebble calendar has more limited availability during that weekend too.

Just back from my own dream trip. We stayed at The Lodge at Pebble Beach, which was just OK. Certainly not worth the money anyway. Of course, there is a value to being guaranteed a tee time, and for me it was worth forking out the extra dough for the hotel.

The only other tip I have is to most definitely get a caddie...worth every penny and saved me at least a few shots as well...

Probably not midnight but he is a super caddie and even better person. Super laid back and can flat out read the greens.

Ill definitely ask for him, are double bagging a must? im going with a friend and the prices seems to be the same $80 a person so why not get our own caddy?
Also what would a good tip be to give to a caddy afterwards?

We just played there two weeks ago (Pebble Monday and Spyglass Tuesday) and the caddies actually prefer to loop two bags. However, they prefer to loop two bags that are lightweight carry bags with either single shoulder straps or crossing straps that adapt well to one shoulder carry.

My brother had a new Taylor Made stand bag with a fixed X strap (best way to describe it) that didn't lend itself to one shoulder carry, so the caddy humped my Titleist stand bag and cross-loaded my brother's clubs and gear into a well-worn Sun Mountain single strap bag.

Absolutely agree with HitTheStick - walking with a caddie is the way to go. We had a terrific caddie, Larry, who's been there 13 years. But for his help reading the greens at Pebble, we'd have had a lot more putts racked up.

The pro shop has a card that's a recommended guide for tipping: $25-50 per person. We tipped Larry $100 cheerfully - his course knowledge and easy-going demeanor made a great experience even better.

I'll get some photos and short narrative up later, but for now, if you have to double up at a room at the Lodge (or at the Inn at Spanish Bay) to guarantee a tee time as a twosome, by all means, bite the bullet. I promise you, you won't regret it.

Thanks, i dont mind tipping, just was reading some horror stories about waiting for you clubs while the caddy is off with the other person. That would sound annoying, but policy is policy i guess. I just hope i can get on with my friend.

Thanks for the reply
