Michelle Wie's HK Commercial

I was browsing YouTube today and I ran into this commercial... I have not seen it on tv before and at the end I realized that it was a Nike Hong Kong Commercial...

If you really leave all the subjectivity aside and look at the big picture, its pretty neat what she wants to do... She is just a very talented kid with big dreams...

I don't agree on the route she has taken to achieve this goal (going to stanford now), but she is free to do what she pleases with her life... only time will tell if she is the best female golfer to ever hold a club or a waste of talent...

 

I know the "Wie" topic, no matter what it is will always create controversy and will end up getting locked, so please lets try to keep on topic and respectful...

 

So, the $8 million question...

 

Why did Nike didn't release this commercial in the US? Too much controversy?

She is going to Stanford and she is not sure on the major just yet... She is going to follow what her family has done in the past... here's the article... Wie goes to Stanford

I don't think she should be "labeled" as anything for dreaming... Who hasn't dreamt of playing with the pros? Who hasn't practiced (and taken a mulligan) that 5 footer to beat Tiger at Augusta?

 

If non of these apply to you, then I bet you have dreamt of making a hole in one, getting that expensive car or that prototype club we all want... It is just a dream... Actually, I think is a great one.. She is trying to go out and do something that hasn't been done, or even tried... That takes a lot of courage and to shout it to the world is even more impressive...

 

Now, on the hand... Do I agree on the way she is going about it? NO... Do I agree on going to Stanford WHILE trying to play pro golf? NO... Do I think her sponsors are happy with her decissions/results? NO... Should she play more with the women and learn how to win? YES... But this are my persona opinions... I think that she is taking the harder route and she might be doing it right or wrong, but I just sit back and watch... We will see what happens in a couple of years...

As far as I'm concerned, she's welcome to do whatever it is that makes her happy, be it playing the men, going to Stanford, or if it just makes her happy that she's doing what her parents want her to do.

 

Who amongst us has reached their full potential anyways? If she doesn't care about beating Annika, why should I be upset that she could be but isn't?

I really agree with you martineli. I have dreamed of all those things on more then 1 occasion(making putts to win various majors and what not). And I doubt very many golfers haven't done it at least once.

 

I also agree with the second part of your post I don't agree with the way she is going about her career route because it just seems really backwards but I guess we all will have to sit back and watch and see what happens in the next 4-5 years of her being in college and playing mens events.

Interesting... I haven't seen it on TV here in US... How was the ending? did it have the Nice.com.HK at the end or only the Nike.com?? I'm surprised to see it playing on US airtime... Probably it hasn't gotten much airtime and seems a little old too, out of date...

 

I could see the guy from the 19th Hole, Steve Duemig I believe, ripping Michelle for that add...

No, it didn't have the Nike.Com.HK at the end but I remeber it having the subtitles(the English ones), and the same music which is why i recalled seeing it. Also I believe that it aired during the Wendy's 3-tour challenge(cant remeber if it was the tourny or if it was the clinic)

Ok, here's the big question (at least for me). What is it about Michelle Wie that has the golf world (and Golf WRX) scrutinizing her every move? Is it because of her talent, her promising sponsorships, her exposure, her decision to play with men etc? I can't pick what it is that gets people so heated over her actions (mind you this thread has been better than most so far). :fool:

I think because she was set on a pedastil and hasnt won anything(did win Public links Am)YET. Maybe th media has done it to her but she wants all this treatment like she is Tiger and isnt even Annika yet. She is no better then Gulbis, neither has won.

I believe the putter is a Nike OZ 130. I only say this becuse I have one.....it's the goods.
