Hip Problems... Exercise, Swing Changes, and or Celebrex

Any experience or suggestions

I'm in my mid 20's, pretty fit, work with a pro (doesn't see any swing problems), swing speed with 6 irons is ~ 90-95 mph depending on the monitor, and after a moderate amount of play practice (1 round of 18 holes and 1 short practice session in a week) I've had some mild hip pain for the second time.

Previously my old doctor told me to take time off and use Celebrex, but no specific excercises to help eliminate the problem.

If anyone has any suggestions on changes (angling the left foot more etc) exercises (I'm told you have an equivalent of a 'rotator cuff' in your hip that can be strengthened with some different exercises) or medically proven treatmets to reduce the inflamation (no cortisone for me though, shoulder reacted quite poorly to it) I would really appreciate it.

I would recommend a second opinion from a good chiropractor since it could be subluxation. This is when one or more of the bones of your spine move out of position and create pressure on, or irritate spinal nerves. Spinal nerves are the nerves that come out from between each of the bones in your spine. This pressure or irritation on the nerves then causes those nerves to malfunction and interfere with the signals traveling over those nerves. I had a lot of hip pain a few years back & the cause was subluxation. My hip flexors/ rotators had become quite tight & this caused my hips to tilt as well as my spine to appear curved (think mild scoliosis). After several visits to my chiropractor I was as good as new.

IMO your doctors treatment is the problem with our medical system. You don't have a Celebrex deficiency, but you could have a hip muscle imbalance. Here is a link with some stretches. I highly recommend the Hip Rotator Stretch & Hip Flexor Stretch. I don't recommend the Prone Press-Up though.

BTW, Patients taking 400 to 800 milligrams of Celebrex were two and a half times more likely to suffer heart attack or cardiovascular stroke where as a chiropractor can permanently remove the pain with out the side affects.

Thanks for the response and thoughts. I've never been to a chiropracter, but I'll ask around for recomendations for someone local and take a look. Also, thank you for the link to the stretches.

 

I know Celbrex is not a great long-term antidote, hence the desire to eliminate the cause of the problem versus just treating it to get by. I will let you know how it all goes.
