Wynn Las Vegas in Febuary 2013

My wife and I recently got to spend 3 nights in Veigas at the Wynn. It was our first trip to Las Vegas and we look forward to returning when we can shake away for 3 nights or so in the future. We really enjoyed ourselves at Wynn. We ate a number of meals there, sampled some of the spa treatments, and I of course played golf.

 

My goal for gambling on this trip was to try and make enough to pay the $500 green fee. Easy the most money I've payed for a round of golf before. A bit out of my character, but I did do it. It sounds like a lot, but our room on the 57th floor was $148 / nt which I thought was great. My air fair was free, thus I was playing with house money already in my mind. I had a good day on the blackjack tables and now had my golf free. My caddie did a great job and was good company without annoying everyone, so he got a $60 tip.

 

Walk down the mall with your clubs and step into the golf shop. You are there. For me I paid a little more money for convince. In my world, time is money, and I wasn't going to waste any of the precious 3 days away from reality.

 

No driving range. Nice mats and a reasonable warm up area. There is one "warm up hole" off the practice tee that will get you acclimated to the types of par 3's you are about to face. Nice, but I wou

D have proffered a small driving range or short iron range.

 

Prior to stepping on the tee, my shoes were brought to me polished. I just play better with shiney shoes! I like the little touches of class that separate Wynn from all the rest.

 

I was greeted warmly by the staff, made to feel comfortable, hooked up with a nice guy from Texas, and off we went.

 

I'm from south Carolina, so western golf was/is new to me. Wynn is the old Desert Sands golf course and if you read on the web, there is very little about the updated version. I found it great fun with excellent greens, challenging tee shots, and an overall fair test. It's a Par 70 course with a few extra par 3 holes which was fun and seemed to speed up play. We didn't have to wait any, thankfully! Some of the best par 4's I've played before. Most are in the 410 to 440 yard range. My ball flys about 10 yards longer than usual and rolls out a mile. A little different for this Carolina boy. The greens were bent grass and were VERY fast when I played them. I'd tell you how to put them, but I missed so many birdie putts its not even funny. My fault-- I think-- none the less, my Nike Method one was benched the next week. Shot 82

 

Nice touches were..... No trash cans, drinks on the cart, stories of celebrities and high rollers, great weather and hotel convenience. Yes, I'm sure there are better golf courses in Vegas, but Wynn is a Vegas experience. For us/me, that was what this trip was about. We played in 3 and 1/2 hrs which was pleasant, not rushed and not that dreaded 5 hr round. In my opinion, after you add in taxi or rental car and time away from your significant other, you may as well play Wynn. I'm not sure you are saving much driving 30 min to an hour somewhere else.

 

Clearly I had a good time and I hope you will too if you give Wynn a try. It's probably not a US Open test, but it is a lot of fun golf in a first class environment. I'll try and figure out how to post a few pictures.

I did the same thing a few years back. Played a couple guys from Ohio and took them for enough to pay my caddy and lunch. It's a first rate course, no doubt. Don't think I'd pay $500 of my own money to play it twice, but if I'm on a hot tear i'd give them some of their money back. Buddy just came back and played Shadow Creek. That's next.

Next time you are there and want/have to drop 5 bills on a round go play Shadow Creek.. They pick u up at the hotel in a limo and take you out.. Not as easy as walking down, but IMO a much better course than Wynn
