Looking for a new putter...

help deciding on a new putter

...and I'm looking to narrow down the possibles. You blokes seem to be the most obsessive and knowledgeable fans of the flatstick (and I mean that in a good way!) so I'm asking if you can help me out. I know my way around the rest of my bag, but I have quite a blind spot when I comes to putters.

These are the general issues:
Price: under 200 GBP/ 400 USD
Type: Blade, not a belly or broom and preferably not with an insert in the face
Neck: Don't mind, centre shafted or plumbers neck or whatever
Brands: Not really a fan of Ping or TaylorMade
Available in the UK or at least easy shipment to the UK
Condition: New would be nice but like-new or refinished would be acceptable.

Current possibles are: Yes! Callie-F and Scotty Cameron Newport 2.

I'm open to buying off ebay but also quite wary as I know I don't know enough to tell the difference between a refinished and mint condition. I also don't want to be taken to the cleaners on price or have a putter not sent due to problems with secretary/mum being away/dad dying/refurb shop not finishing it right (yes I read the threads on this forum!). I know that my budget doesn't stretch into the rarefied air of an SC 009's and the like but I would like something a bit special.

I agree. I had one shipped by Jay out to Australia with no problems, and if there is a local guy even better.

 

Or wait for the Machine Putter unveiling. I'm told they will ship overseas as well.

I wasn't even considering these guys but they look fantastic. What's worse is that the custom option isn't to far out of my budget!

 

Does anybody else have any other possibilities?

I wouldn't downplay the neck style since it affects the putter's balance. If you know your stroke style, why not have the putter work for you, instead of the other way around? You've probably also seen threads here extolling the virtues of going with the lesser known craftsmen. If you want something special, you may consider checking out byronputters.com and bigoakputters.com.

 

I actually prefer a plumbers neck style as that works best for me (although I'm currently playing with a centre shafted model!). I just didn't want to restrict suggestions to only one style.

I had a customer who just broke his arm surfing... Byron was going to make him a 006 with no sound slot ,303 stainless ,plumbers neck,3-x black ,with yellow paint fill. Sounds like a winner to me...This beauty will be on the market very soon.PM me if your interested in something like this.. The new Club Byron putter the "New Dale Head" is another possibilty.

I am glad to see you are willing to spend some money on the most important club in your bag ($400). Too many people buy $300 drivers and $50 putters. You use a putter 2-3 times more a round than a driver.

 

If you like blades check out Cameron Circa's 1 or 2. Brand new will run you about $230. T.P, Mills are nice also, but I am biased to a Cameron.
