WOW - D.A. Points using Ping I5 irons

Lol....must be some new members. As pointed out there has been mixed bag deals for years on Tour. Stewart Cink is also playing Ping irons. Not a big deal. Taylormade gets the exposure because people hardly notice the irons in play but they certainly don't mistake his White driver, bag or hat.
Yeah besides golf forum users / blogers the general public doesn't look close enought to see what these guys are playing, nor do they probably care. That said Taylormade is brilliant...saturate the market with advertising, thats all that staff bags are. You think a pro would give a rats behind if his caddy is carrying a staff bag or a light bag if companies didn't pay them? Probably not. Taylormade just wants TV time so what ever gets the guys to the prime time market they don't care.

As for the players, when the only guarentee is the check your getting each week your in a tournament comes from sponsor money, i doubt they care if Kotex or Depends are the sponsor as long as the check clears.

So maybe already been asked...does Ping make his sets with conforming grooves....make Bubba his set as well when he requests? Or, is this truly and old set that has been through the ringer a few times? Anyone?
Yeah I wanted to know was well. I remember someone being extremely adamant, that you couldn't get them with conforming grooves.

I'm assuming (perhaps incorrectly) that they can cast s59 heads for Bubba with conforming grooves. Would they for DA since he's not a staffer? Probably for a charge...

Nobody playing on tour is paying for clubs unless its the one off situation of the player walking into a store because the van is already gone for the week. Yes PING is making new sets of old clubs for guys like mentioned above to be conforming to the new rules. I don't think however they will do this for the average guy since they have plenty of new models out. DA also used to be on PING's staff so he probably has a relationship with someone there to get that put in motion.

Yeah PING is having a hell of a year. Other than Dustin Johnson and Points (with PING in bag). Is there anyone else with TM with a win this year? Or is this just the second win of season for them ?
Brian Gay.

Nike has 5 wins (obv 3 Tiger)
TM has 3 (4 if you Count Snedekers win even though it's a Superfast)
Bridgestone 2
Ping has 1 with a Staffer (2 if you count Points)
Titleist 1

This is not a bash on TMAG. How is it a player carries a staff bag and plays 1,2, 3 clubs from that manufacture on the bag and the majority of his clubs are some other brand? I see this allot with Taylor, Cally, Adams. Do companies have 1 club deals? How does this work?
Yeah some guys sign deals for just driver and ball. Again, like Furyk with Callaway. He happens to play more of their clubs but isn't obligated to do so. A lot of guys with "Titleist" hats on have only ball deals and can play whatever clubs they want. Very few players have 14 club deals.

Since Furyk won the FedEx cup a few years ago it seems like he has shunned big club contracts and plays what he wants. Found a fit with the Hex Black and RFX and gets paid for it.

For the record any OEM who wants me to play 14 clubs I am available fairly cheap. Muni players all over NE Ohio will know that I Believe with all my heart that ________ are the best damn clubs made today!

Adams (even before the buyout) would sign players to contract just to play the hybrid, same thing with Taylormade in the driver. Titleist/Footjoy will sign guys to shoe ball and glove, while they play other companies clubs. (I think Andres Gonzales is Footjoy shoe ball, glove and plays Scratch irons/wedges with Callaway woods and bag....unique bag there.) Scotty Cameron pays players just to use the putter....but usually it's attached to the shoe, ball, glove, deal. It's about marketing and counts on Tour not necessarily what's in the entire bag. Mixed bag deals usually aren't as lucrative as whole bag deals....which are still rare because a "full bag" is still usually 12-13 clubs still leaving an option for a player. You see a lot of mixed bags with middle of the road type guys like D.A. Points (obviously he has a couple wins now...but still not a household name...yet) Fewer mixed bag deals at the top of the rankings. Srixon, Mizuno, Bridgestone, Adams, Taylormade are usually the flexible bag contracts.....some Callaway...not as common. Cleveland, Titleist and Ping aren't as open to mixed bags and usually want a 10-12 club deal.

Nike's guys all had 14 clubs and a Nike ball in play--Brown and Henley 20XI--TW Tour D. Pretty impressive. I guess when we all criticize brands for not having players in the newest xyz club, you have to step back and appreciate how some brands literally get guys to go all in with them. It's not an easy task. Take a look around the Tour and I think the facts will bare that out.

Highly unlikely. I don't believe there is any touring pro who plays Nike without getting paid for it.

You talking about ball or clubs? I could see this being true for the golf ball but there are some pros that use the method putter and vr wedges and I don't know if they get paid for it. It wouldn't surprise me that they do because Nike would probably pay anyone.
