Hello All,

My name's Tim and I'm from Western NY (which means our golf season is just beginning).

I've been hacking at a golf ball for the better part of 16 years. No lessons, no proper gear, just cheap stuff off the shelf.

About three years ago my wife decided that she wanted to take up the sport with me. The first year was just a year for her to swing the clubs and play some golf with me.

Last year after ski season (I snowboard, she skis) and before the courses opened up she told me she was excited to golf again (woohoo!!!) so I told her we'd do it right and get her taught properly.

I took her to a local pro (who happened to be my health teacher from high school). He started teaching her and on occasion I'd get a lesson from him also to start reversing some of the things I had to stop doing!!

At the same time I got fitted for set of golf clubs since the ones I had were graphite shafted irons off the shelf and about 6 years old (they were also too short for me).

Last summer the wife made good improvement to her game and I shot a number of rounds below 100 (which was my goal).

This year so far we've played 18 holes on the 2nd day one of our local courses was open and we've played another 9 since (the weather this time of year is hit or miss, with a lot of miss).

I've taken her to a different pro for some indoor learning (since the weather sucks) and she made a huge step in the right direction with regards to consistency in ball striking. The 9 holes we played was after this lesson and she played probably the best I've ever seen her play.

We've committed to learning with this pro for a bit this year (they also offer the option to learn indoors or outdoors at a few of the local very nice high end country clubs that have great practice areas)

I'll get her fit for proper clubs this year too. She has a faster swing speed than most women and off the shelf stuff is too light for her (although she's dealt with it now for a few years).

So yeah there's my short introduction :) I've lurked here for a long time, never participating - just taking in everything as I had need. Figured I'd join and hopefully give a little back!
