The towering cliffs of granite-faced Rumbling Bald Mountain overlook the Bald Mountain Golf Course. This tree-lined, scenic course winds in and out of gradual elevation changes from tee to green through the mountains and valleys.

Streams, ponds and wildlife dot the landscape. Bald Mountain is a shot maker’s course that is challenging, yet fair, and allows you to select from four different sets of tees. The course is popular for all ages and abilities, and always receives high marks from Golf Digest readers.

 

In 1986 Dan Maples designed the Apple Valley course and Golf Digest called it one of the most beautiful mountain courses around. The beauty of the back nine is breathtaking. Upon completion of the 17th hole, stop, turn around and look back up the valley at the 11th and 16th green and the fairways leading to the base of the mountains for holes 12 through 15.

 

If you like to hit the driver, Apple Valley is where you want to play but be sure to bring your “A” game with the putter. Here you’ll find gentle, undulating greens in superb condition with the speed worthy of a gifted touch The bottom line about playing golf at Rumbling Bald resort is you have two 18-hole courses that are totally different. Most players that visit play both courses, pick their favorite, then play it again. The amazing aspect about the number of rounds played each year at Apple Valley and Bald Mountain is that for the past 7 years the total number of rounds played at each course is within 500 of one another.

HA! My grandparents live on this course, I have played it probably at least 100+ times!

I vacationed at Rumbling Bald last October and it was wonderful. Played Apple Valley and enjoyed it quite a bit. Not many places prettier than Lake Lure in the fall.
