Yeah i'd agree with the two club rule, but also agree that aslong as you didn;t play another ball first, that's a hole in one from the pro's tees.

Does anyone know the stipulations Titleist have for handing out boxes or Pro Vs to golfers who hole in one. i'm think it has to be in a competiton and there needs to be conformation from playing partners and club secretary, but is anyone clear on this? Obviously it has to be with a Titleist. Anyone had any other free handouts for binning their tee shot, magazine winners etc.?

It's a hole in one...come on guys don't get technical. Even if I played from the blues and then decided to hit from the pro tee's for fun and I jarred in it's definitely a hole in one. You'd count it as a hole in one but I don't know what you are trying to get at...do you write it on the scorecard? Of course not.

USGA :

Validity of Hole in One

Q. What constitutes the validity of a hole in one?

A. The Rules of Golf do not address the issue of the validity of a hole-in-one. It is up to the Committee to determine whether a hole-in-one is valid. The USGA recommends that a hole-in-one be considered valid:

  • If made during a round of at least nine holes, except that a hole-in-one made during a match should be acceptable even if the match ends before the stipulated round is completed.
  • If the player is playing one ball; a hole-in-one made in a practice round in which the player is playing two or more balls should not be acceptable.
  • If attested by someone acceptable to the Committee.
  • If made at a hole with a temporary tee and/or putting green in use, even if the Committee did not specifically define the teeing ground with tee-markers; the length of the hole at the time should be stated on any certificate.
  • If made in a "scramble" competition, which is played as follows: A side comprises four players. Each member of a side plays from the teeing ground, the best drive is selected, each member plays a second shot from where the best drive is located, and so on.

Enough said

It is? it doesn't even address the initial question. Does a hole in one count if the shot is made from somewhere besides the legal tee ground?

No. The shot was illegal, so how can it be a hole in one? If someone attested to it, they'd be breaking the rules too. Unless. of course, the pro tees were within two club lengths of the correct tees. Would you count it if he moved up to the red tees and made the shot?

That said, I'd brag about it.

Ok no one is saying go and post it in the newspaper and stuff. You made a hole in one, great shot, doesn't matter whether or not it was a shot that was w/i 2 club lengths. If I took a bucket of balls 2 the tee and made 1, then i made a hole in one...that simple. He made it. All that matters. But if you're going to post it in the newspaper and stuff then you're wrong.
