Courses on the island are overpriced IMO. If you go across the bridge to play The Pointe or Carolina club you will get as good quality for cheaper. Seascape is misleading to me. All of the holes are surrounded by trees, they advertise like its links golf. Pricey too. Nags Head is decent. Currituck is nice but expensive. Heard great things about Kilmaric but never played it.

Currituck Club in Corolla will be about your only option unless you want over an hour round trip of travel, further if you go across the bridge to Pointe or Kilmarlic and even further if you go to Carolina Club.

Duck Woods and SeaScape will be your next closest options, Sea Scape will give you an oceanview and links feel on a few holes. I grew up playing Duck Woods so it's a sentimental favorite - it's semi-private and has more of a parkland feel to it compared to the other courses on the Outer Banks.

Nags Head Golf Links is down in Nags Head and can be fun if the wind isn't blowing too hard.

Every place down there in peak season will most likely be pricey compared to what you might be used to. There aren't any real value plays.

Third trip this summer to the OBX, second without my clubs. Go to the beach, have some beers and call it a day. Not worth the hassle.

Understood!!!!

For clarification purposes.....as with most people that go we have a couple families that meet up there. The kids go to bed early from all the beach and pool time.....the parents not so much. There are a couple (several if not most) morning that I am not in peak mental or physical golf playing condition. Hence, not worth brining my clubs....

duck woods water is covered in green most the year so it looks like grass. i learned the hard way.

currituck is very nice, but be prepared to pony up some money to play it. i called and get a 125 rate last year early morning.

lots of wind as well.

This ^^^^^. We go every year and stay in South Nags Head with the inlaws and sister inlaw and her husband who doesn't play. First 3 years we took clubs and I played once. Father-in law refuses to pay that much (he's a $20 before 7 kinda guy) and isn't very good so he wouldn't enjoy. The one time I played, my wife had extended family down the same time we were. They were staying on some gated community up near Duck/Corolla. I played with her cousin and he got the discount for the course in the community (I can't remember what it was) and it still was over $100. Now that we have 2 kids age 4 and 2 it isn't worth the hassle anymore.

We are actually going to Disney/Orlando this summer for like 9 days. I'm trying to decide if I want to take the clubs or not. It seems like a huge hassle to take them on the plane, to play as a single or get paired up bc no way my father in law will play or take his. KInda sucks because I would love to play some down there, but just seems like not worth it. I'm gonna go and enjoy the family and just play more when I get back.

Duck Woods does have ponds and canals in play on 14 holes, and they do grow duckweed in the summer time, but I'm not sure how you could mistake that for fairway or rough.

If you're staying up north (Corolla), then getting down to play in Nags Head or across the bridge at the Pointe or Kilmarlic can be a long proposition (90 minutes each way if you go at the wrong time). That's not to say that playing Currituck is worth it, but you definitely need to figure your time into the equation. I've personally found that Duck Woods is a pretty good compromise. Not too far a drive, but not nearly as expensive as Currituck. I have never played the Pointe or Kilmarlic because driving that far while on vacation doesn't seem like a great use of time.

Now when they build the northern bridge, then a whole world of golf will be opened up for people staying in Corolla....

The NC Legislature has pretty much killed that project at this point.

I had a Friday check-in and we were about four blocks from Currituck. The locals stay in their houses on check-in/check-out days, so Currituck via a GolfNow pre-paid was a great buy, and very low key. The course was perfect, but very windy on certain holes. I played Currituck again on Thursday and got to experience the full OBX vacation golf 5hr round.

Kilmarlic was AWESOME, and worth the trip. Low key, not a huge traffic place, and very, very nice folks. Course was in excellent shape, and the round was something short of 4.5hours. Went back on Friday, and used a buddy's house coupon for 36 holes. Awesome time.

Might try Duck Woods next time, as my wife's family have a social membership there, and can probably get me a favorable tee time by calling in a favor.

I've been going to Corolla every summer for the past 14 years. Currituck Club is a great facility if your willing to shell out the money. We always go during prime summer season and Currituck is $160 plus another $75 junior rate for my son to play with me.

If your willing to go back across the bridge a couple miles the "Carolina Club" from the back tees will give you all you can handle as a challenge and has always been in excellent condition the times I've played it. For price, course conditions, and toughness, Carolina Club is my favorite in the area.
