Newbie from Chicago

Greetings all.....newbie from the Chicago area here.

 

Rough details.....Bogey golfer (index currently 18.9). Enjoying one of my best years in awhile, mostly because I have been focusing on triathlons the last few years. A nasty case of plantar fasciitis has ruined my season this year, so I have been focusing on my golf game. Index has dropped from 21.7 to 18.9 just in the last 2 weeks.

 

Goal for this year is to break 85 and hopefully 80 once (but that will probably be a stretch). Shot an 86 on Saturday on a pretty tough course, so sub-85 should be doable.

Welcome aboard, Chief. Are you downtown or situated in the 'burbs? Condolences on the PF (part of the reason I switched to barefoot running...yes, I'm a weirdo). What course did you play on Saturday? Always up for meeting new faces and welcome to the fold! Let me know if you have any questions about getting around here.

Thanks, Jake. I'm up in the northern 'burbs. Played Steeple Chase in Mundelein on Saturday. Back 9 started really strong for me. Was -1 under through 4 and par through 5. A double on 15 & 17 cost me though and I carded a 41 for the back 9.

re: barefoot running.,....I can't go that far, but have been running in minimalist / natural running shoes for a few years. Wore Newtons quite a bit, along with Saucony Kinvaras and Brooks Pure Connect. Have now developed a pretty decent mid-foot strike, no matter what shoe I run in. Switched to Mizuno Wave Rider 16's this winter for most of my runs and then used Hoka One One Bondi B's for my long runs. The Hokas are god-awful ugly, but they save my legs on longer runs.

Yeah... I can't look at the Hoka's so I don't use 'em! I basically stick to Merrell Vapor and Road Glove and sometimes the Newton MV2 on 5K races if I wear shoes. Loved the Kinvaras...those really transitioned me into minimalism.

I'm out west in the St. Charles area. Let me know if you ever want to get together for a round or just need a playing partner for a round!
