Questions about Pinehurst (Any locals or frequent visitors?)

First off is anyone here a member or live in Pinehurst, I'd love to pick your brain on a few things about the area.

 

My wife I are going to Pinehurst with another couple for a long weekend for July 4th. The other gentelman and I are going to be playing golf and the girls will likely do a spa day or something of the like. I had a couple questions that I hoped to find answers to:

 

1. Is there an option that the girls can go to in order to use a pool? We're not staying on the resort so we can't use it without member guess passes so I believe that's out. I wanted to see if there was another option in Pinehurst. Anyone on here a member and I can arrange something with you to compensate for a pool guest pass?

 

2. What are some things the girls can do during the day? Is there some shopping in the village or nearby?

 

3. Is there a spa that is recommended or should they use the spa at the resort?

 

4. Any restaurants you recommend?

Have dinner at the Ironwood Cafe in Pinehurst. Good steaks, fish and daily off the menu specials. Nice outdoor area for dining as well if its not too hot.

Lunch at the Donald Ross Grill is always fun because the hallway outside of the restaurant is a mini-museum featuring US Open items from Payne Stewart and Michael Campbell's victories there. I could easily spend an hour just walking down that hallway.

As Mark said Ironwood is always good. Elliotts is also very good, Sly Fox in Southern Pines has same owner. Ashten's in Southern Pines is very good. Dugans and Holly Tavern are fun pubs, Ryder Cup and Donald Ross Grill are okay but fun to see the clubhouse. Darlin House to me is cramped with okay food but locals like the bar. 1895 at the Holly is exceptional. Pine Crest Inn has good food with a very historic atmosphere, celebrating 100 years. Worth going there just to experience it. Just my opinions.

Pool option is tough unless one at your hotel. Spa at Pinehurst is first class all the way, there is an indoor pool there.

Pinehurst has a lot of cute shops that can hold your interest for a little while. Everone loves Green Gate Olive Oil shop. Southern Pines has a much greater selection for shopping along Broad Street. A friend and I played 36 the other day while our wives shopped in Southern Pines, we were done before them. You should visit the Olde Sport in Pinehurst, great collection of golf memorabilia and even has some Russian eggs and carvings that the wives would enjoy. Owner and wife are both fascinating people,

The spa at Pinehurst is top knotch. My wife, mother and sister-in-law all say its the best they've been to. If I'm not mistaken you have to be a resort guest to use the spa. I could be wrong about that. The fine dining restaurant in the Holly Hotel (part of Pinehurst Resort) is really very good.

You can use the spa if you're not a resort guest. I was able to book services there for my wife. We were also able to get member's passes to use the resort as unaccompanied guests while we're there which will make it nice.
