New guy from Littleton, CO soon to be Naples, FL

Hello everyone, my name is Andrew, I'm 30 and I've been playing golf since I was 10. I've used this site a bit to reference some older used clubs and now I've decided to join.

 

I currently live in Littleton, CO where the altitude is nice, but it's deceiving and I don't really like it. The course I play normally from the tips plays 7000 yards, but it's not that long.

 

I am originally from Staten Island, NY and grew up playing on a course called Silver Lake Golf Course. This course was so narrow that you had to really hit it straight to succeed. Some fairways were as narrow as 14 yards wide! I played with a mens club there with a lot of phenomenal golfers. There were courses on the island and each had phenomenal golfers. I learned a lot from the guys I played with. One guy I had a bet with was to help me stop myself from pushing it too much. I had to give him $10 if I made double bogey or worse on a hole, and you know what, it helped. Another bet I had was birdies plus GIR in the round for $5, and that helped as well. Play the safer shot rather than trying to push it.

 

I had my handicap down to 1.6 in my prime and my lowest score was 68 (without pins mind you). But since then life happened and I haven't played as much. Wife and kids, the move from NY to CO, then I finished my Bachelors degree in Nursing. When I finished that in December, I started to play a little bit more and got my timing back. Lowest rounds I shot this year are a pair of 75's. Really not far off from making it.

 

My clubs are a bit old, probably around 10 years old. I'm going to make a WITB thread when I can take some pics, but currently, I have

 

Titleist 905S 8.5º Aldila NV-65 S (Just got that to replace my G2 with the same shaft, but it was a little bit whippy)

Titleist PT13º with an x100 shaft

Titleist 585H 19º Aldila NV-85 S

Mizuno MP-33's (4-PW) with S300 shafts (these shafts are really whippy and don't play near a stiff anymore. Waiting on some money so I can get myself into some new irons)

Titleist SM4 wedges 52.12, 56.08, & 60.10 with KBS Hi rev X flex shafts

Putter is a Newport 2.5 shortened to 33"

 

All grips are GP z-cord labels down

 

I have two woods that are going to replace the PT and 585. I have a 13º and 17º 904F, just waiting on some Aldila NV-85S shafts to come in to get those reshafted.

 

I'm moving to Naples, Fl in about 2 weeks. I was accepted into graduate school at FGCU for my masters in nursing with a concentration in nurse anesthesia. My in-laws belong to a country club down there called The Vineyards and I can join as an extended family member for $100/year and I have access to the entire club, I just have to pay for greens fees which is not a bad deal at all.

Welcome to WRX - my folks used to winter a little north of Naples - that is one nice area.

In-laws have a condo in Naples. I love it there. Make sure to go to the county or city building or w/e it is and get a beach parking pass. It is free to all residents. It lets you drive right up to the beach and park anytime.

I can play golf here in CO year round, but I think FL has the "year round" golf edge

It is a very nice area. Although I do love the winters here in CO, it will be nice to see green year round

Yeah, that's on my list to do when I get there. But in all honesty, I hate the beach. I'd rather be on the golf course.
