Tiger Stinger

Put any pro with a bit of ability 20 yards behind a tall tree with low hanging branches and they'll be hitting a 'stinger' of some sort.

Bubba excepted as he'll be cutting dimples off the ball to go round it.

So every pro can also hit 350 yard drives like Dustin because they are pros and are all the same? Same goes for tiger. Sure they can all nit low balls, but they can't all hit stingers the way tiger hits them.

Yes, I'm sure most pros can hit that 7-iron "stinger" that you saw in the video.

Like I said, that was just a punch 7-iron into an uphill green. Cool shot but if you think it was other-worldly, or that no one else can hit it, you are delusional.

Go follow Gary Woodland around and watch him hit his stinger off the tee and tell me no one else can do what Tiger does.

In fact, that's one of the biggest differences between the "stinger" and a punch. When Tiger hits his stinger he's taking a swing that is closer to a full swing than a swing typically associated with a punch.

And yes, you are right, Gary Woodland is starting to hit a stinger (and he works with Butch Harmon, who Tiger worked with when developing his "stinger"). So we have Tiger and one other player playing the shot, and that now means that every tour pro can hit it?? I guess its like Phil's shots around the green, they aren't that hard and all pros have those in the bag.

Did they all get together a decide to make a big deal out of it to boost ratings? Seems like a lot of work. Wouldn't we have have had at least one announcer come out and say "that shot's really not that hard, 90% of the guys out here have that shot in the bag?"

Was there any real need to play that stinger with the 7 iron? there is your answer why most people don't just play it for the hell of it.

Lastly, because it's Tiger Y'all! the announcers get all excited if Tiger farts. Well, all except Chamblee.

Is there a "need" for Phil to hit half the shots he does? Or Bubba? They do it because they can and feel its the best shot for the situation.

And yeah, I guess you're right. Its one big conspiracy. They all got together and decided to make a big deal out of Tiger's "stinger" and Phil's flop shots for the last 10 years. Or is Phil's flop unique, but the "stinger" isn't? And Bubba's 330 yard slice? That's part of the conspiracy as well? Or is that a unique shot?

I caant recall another shot like it in a competitive round. Any other player in that position would have hit a standard shot. Im sure there are guys who can hit that shot in pracice or in social rounds, but they wouldn't have the confidence to try it in a tournament.

I only get to watch pro golf on tv but I watch it regularly. I might go to youtube and look up golf stinger and se how many xamples of this shot involving other players comes up.

Good shot of Gary Woodland, this one goes lower than most. I saw him hit this shot at Innisbrook's Copperhead Course on hole #2 a couple of years ago.
