Planning a may trip to carolina's. Please help me decide

Ok, i'm planning a trip to either North Carolina or Myrtle Beach early in May. I have a couple of packages i'm looking at right now. What are you opinions of these courses and do you have any other suggestions:

The Carolina

Legacy

Tobacco Road

 

 

Myrtle Beach:

 

The Witch Golf Club

Myrtlewood Golf Club - Pinehills

Meadowlands Golf Club

Farmstead Golf Links.

Aside from Tobacco Road, which is a very fun course, you can find significantly better golf courses in both locations.

I have played all of the courses in Myrtle Beach that you mentioned, and I think you can do better than those courses. The Witch is the best of the four, followed closely by Farmstead (they have a par 6). Myrtle Wood is ok the phinehills course did close down for a year and they did some major renovations but its not great. and Meadowlands is right next to Farmstead and that is a pretty bad course.. Sometimes it can be in decent shape but for the most part its not very good! Farmstead and Meadowlands are actually in N.C. and are quite a bit away from Myrtlewood and the Witch.. (at least 30mins). IMO- Go to MB and Play True Blue, Caladonia, Barefoot Love and Glen Dornoch. True Blue and Caladonia were both designed by the same guy (Mike Strantz) who did Tobacco Road. The weather will be warmer in MB in May too.

I echo the above poster on the MB courses, you simply won't do much better in Myrtle. The Pinehurst itinerary you have is OK, but I would delete the Carolina and Seven Lakes. You should try to play Talamore, which is just excellent, you might also try the Pit, which is target golf, but a lot of fun. Also Anderson Creek in Sanford is really good, Longleaf is pretty good too. Little River Farm is another good track in the area. Legacy and Tobacco Road are must plays to me. The Carolina is good, but there are much better courses in the area.

Pinehurst in May is a great idea. There is more nightlife in MB, if you are interested in that. DO NOT under any circumstances play the Carolina or Little River Farms if you go to Pinehurst. IMO anything, including a lobotomy (sp) without anesthetia is better that those two alleged course.

Price is always a factor on trips. If money no object you can't go wrong either place and quality options abound. If looking for cheapest MB is probably the best bet.

As an alternative, I just booked a trip for 20 to Whispering Pines just north of Southern Pines. Haven't been there is years so not sure about conditions, but there are 36 holes on site so self contained, which is a big issue for me due to concerns of guys drinking and driving. The lawyer in me coming out. At Whispering Pines in March I got 54 holes, carts, lodging for 2 nights and two breakfasts for $287 per person. I know I could beat it somewhere but this seems reasonable to me for this place.

I second Long Bay, a great Nicklaus track. We loved it. One guy wouldn't stop talking about it the entire week after we played it. Its fantastic.

ferrispgm, the mbn courses you listed are ok.... Myrtle Beach national is very busy so expect long rounds...type of course you see groups on other fairways all day with the occasional fore coming you way.

 

Long Bay - best of the bunch, nice track

Myrtle Beach National - West Course - see above, better than south.

Myrtle Beach National - SouthCreek - weak

River Club - never played but check out the site i sent you.

Aberdeen Country Club - played years ago when it was buck creek. nothing spectacular.

We booked there in May for 6 nights 5 rounds for $600. 5 great courses to choose from. Also Carribean Resort Condo's are nice also with several golf course choices.

 

Also the courses frediec mentioned are top notch they may break the bank if you're working within a budget.

I just checked out the legends, it sounds like a pretty good deal. Thanks. Yeah, i was looking for something in the mid range price level, while i would love to go to Pinehurst, it's just a tad too expensive.

 

Does anyone know if any of these places offer discounts for PGM students? I've emailed some and I haven't received a response.
