Ebay acct was hacked

So I received the dreaded ebay message about an hour ago saying that they thought my acct had been hacked. I just changed all my passwords for email, ebay, and paypal.

 

I'm still somewhat inexperienced with the ebay thing, but I had been emailing back and forth with people about items I was selling and we weren't conversing thru the ebay message center, but by email. Apparently this is a big no-no (cool)

 

So hopefully all of you learn from my mistake, only communicate thru the ebay messaging center.

If not, it might be a phishing fraud trying to get your passwords.

If the message from ebay was not in "My Messages" just delete it, and do nothing.

It wasn't addressed in my name. When you get those questions from ebay, it'll say something like ebay: question about item#14314565: Question about shipping...

 

Well it said all that, but when I opened it, it didn't have the Ebay email borders and colors, and it was from someone's email, not from the message center.

Anytime you get email from "eBay," delete it. Go straight to eBay, log in, and check your messages. Any legitimate mail will appear there.

 

I receive three or four fake eBay emails a week, all with the eBay logo, and all linking to an "ebay.com" url (which changes, of course, if it's clicked on). These fake sites exist for one reason: to steal personal information, including passwords, from people who don't question their authenticity. They're visited for legitimate reasons (i.e. an official-looking email), which is why people let their guard down and don't suspect anything wrong.

 

That's phishing.

this happened to me too. i went to ebay and it said the same thing so i changed it from there but i didn't click any links or anything i just typed in ebay.com in my address bar and went from there.

Phishers attempt to fraudulently acquire sensitive information, such as passwords and credit card details, by masquerading as a trustworthy person or business in an electronic communication. Phishing is typically carried out using email or an instant message, although phone contact has been used as well.

 

Go back and create a new password....one that you haven't used before on that account.

Sounds like it wasn't hacked, but you probably gave away some information to some scam artists. I would contact ebay ASAP and change your passwords, especially paypal.
