Sonocaddie: poor customer service & downloading

My new sonocaddie came right on time. However, I had trouble downloading, initially. To make matters worse, they closed their telephone support between Christmas and New Year's Day!

Not a great start. I had read good things here and elsewhere about the product, so hopefully now that I finally was able to download some courses it will be clear sailing.

Unfortunately, I think the state of the golf GPS industry is that pretty much all of the players are small shops. If someone with the resources of a Sony or even a Taylor Made decided to market this kind of product I think the current players would be reduced to dust in no time. They simply could not compete.

It is a drag the site has issues at the moment, but I think it is a good thing they close down for the holidays as it shows care for their employees. I don't think one week a year is out of line or qualifies as "lousy" support.

But I feel your pain not being able to play with a new toy right away.

hddude, I got a Sonocaddie for Christmas and yesterday was able to create an account quickly and start downloading the courses. It worked like a charm first try except that once I was done and disconnected my Sonocaddie from the computer, the Internet Explorer window was acting really slow, so I closed it and everything was back to normal after that.

I have yet to take it to the course, but will do that tomorrow. I did take it outside and was able to get plenty of satelites in my backyard.

I got the SG3 instead of the iGolf or Sonocaddie...used it once on a lightly mapped course but going to one of the nicer courses saturday and will let you know how accurate it might be when I stand on sprinkler head and match distances. I am looking forward to it showing me layup targets and then saying how far I will have left to the hole as a second shot.

Any chance you were using Firefox? The site only works with IE and Windows.

i really hope they make the Sonocaddie compatible with Macs and other browsers sooner than later.

I had a problem at first trying to download courses. Then I realizes they did not support firefox. Once I used IE all my issues were resolved. I have been using it for a month now and I am very happy with it. I get three rounds + with the rechargable eneloop batteries. The only thin they need is a case for it. I am still auditioning a suitable solution.

I have 7 rounds with it on 6 different courses. I am a happy user.

FYI, I have two friends that also got a Sonocaddie for Christmas and one had issues downloading courses. After 1/2 hour, he read some help file (I don't know where it was as I didn't have any problems) and it turns out, he had to disable his Norton Anti-virus software to do it. Once he did that, he had no issues.
