steel shaft vs graphite shaft in FW woods and hybrids

I've always played steel in my woods. Tried 85g graphites but they just couldn't hack it. Too light and hard to control when I really step at it. Went to the 08 Cally woods with S300s this year.

Ditto with the steel shafts in woods/hybrids.

I happen to like the extra weight in them as it helps with my tempo.

The bonus is also that steel shafts are significantly cheaper on the wallet than graphite!

I've gone back to tipped S300's in Mizuno F60 (15°) and CLK Fli-Hi (20°) this year after NV 85's for the last couple of years.

I fancied a change and also like the 0.5" shorter shafts that steel come in. Time will tell how they work out but so far they feel good.

exactly guys, wanted to make sure it wasnt just me and i wasnt missing out on graphite shafts.

and i agree, the slightly shorter club makes it that much easier to square the clubface. and the dg lite s300 is a kickass shaft as well.

i played steel in my fairway woods and hybrids for years and only in the last year have i started using graphite. i too prefer the heavier feel. i was using rifle steel shafts in my 3 wood, 5 wood and 18* hybrid. a year ago i got a great deal on a blueboard 103 shaft and put it in my 3 wood - AWESOME!!!!! still had a good weight, but the feel was great. i then ended up picking up a 18* hybrid with a vs proto 95. again, the weight was great. i've now moved in to purple ice 95's in my fairway woods (added a tip weight in the 5 wood) and have a 904hb in my hybrid and the weights are great. they keep my swing in control.

What sort of distance difference have people found when comparing the longer lighter graphite to shorter heavier steel?

I switched to DG High Launch X100s in my Airmuscles and I really love the weight and performance. Much better than the Aldila NV85 and other 85g graphite shafts. I had an Idea Pro with the stock VS and it was just too light.
