Can driver hosel/weight settings affect swing speed?

Currently testing Epic Flash Sub Zero 9º and going through the hosel settings I was seeing some odd spikes in swing speed.

I was wondering if the changing of the hosel settings and slidey weight position can impact the swing speed as it was definitely feeling a lot different when changing settings.

I'm talking as much as 5-6 MPH speed increase.

I heard about something called swing weight, D2 D4 etc, is there any truth to my observation, or was I simply swinging faster for the odd shot?

Far as I'm concerned I was swinging full speed all the time, so to see a spike off 5-6 MPH in the odd swing seems a lot.

I thought it was a speed spike within me at the time, but I'm just wondering if I could have been mistaken.

With golf and equipment, anything is possible. Any change in feel could potentially influence the swing and change results.

In your case, since the weight is only being moved around (not added or subtracted), there could be a small change in swing weight but I can't say that I'd normally expect that much change in swing speed. But that's not the only thing that can effect swing speed. Hosel changes can change the face angle and the movable weight can effect the MOI about the shaft axis which can change the feel of what might be needed to "properly" release and square the face. And as mentioned before, anything that might reduce the feel of how much manipulation you thing you have to do in the swing can increase the efficiency of the swing in general. Lots of possibilities.

Next time (if there is one), one test is to go back to the original settings and see if you go back to the original slower speeds. That can help rule out the fact that you just might have needed some time to get warmed up or get your rhythm with the new club.

What was being used for a launch monitor? Some (e.g. gc2 w/o HMT) don't actually measure swing speed, they assume a certain smash factor when they report it - so the increase could actually be a result of better impact condition and really just more ball speed w/o necessarily having that much more swing speed.
