Kiawah Island in Nov/Dec

Recommended Posts

I am seriously considering taking advantage of the golf/gourmet package this year.....With that being said is it possible to get 36 holes in on one day due to the time change? I am doubting anyone can play Ocean and another course in the same day due to having to walk the Ocean course. BUT, is it possible to play two of the other courses in one day to get 36 holes in?

You can get 36 in 1 day. I go every winter because the deal is so great. If you can get 1 of the first tee times out and play in 4 hours, grab a quick lunch you should be able to get it in. Depending on how busy it is obviously. I have never played in more than a 2 going out, but that is always on the ocean course walking. And that usually is right at 4 hours. If you play as a 4 this obviously makes it more difficult, maybe not possible. You basically have 7:30am-5:30pm in mid november.

And obviously, it can be pretty chilly that early.

Cool. Last time (only time) I played Ocean course was in June in a foursome and we were 5+ hours if I remember correctly.

I want to take advantage of the winter package, but coming from Texas I dont want to fly up there and stay for two or three nights and only get in two rounds.

I was in Charleston for a wedding in January and snuck out to the Ocean course on Friday by myself with a caddie and got around in about 2.5. Caddie told me they are much less crowded during weekdays at that time of the year. I got the impression that members and residents don't really make the trek to the Ocean course and you obviously get less tourists during weekdays. You might be able to do 36 with the Ocean course if you do it Thursday or Friday. Those dormant paspalum greens were pretty rough/slow in January. I wish that place had one of the new bermuda strains for the greens, I get using paspalum for all the turf (saltwater irrigation) but I just don't really like it on greens.

You'll have no issues if your first round is at 8AM or earlier. Its very easy to pair Osprey with the Ocean for 36 since they are so close. Ocean in the afternoon will be slower but you'll be fine if you tee off before 12:45PM. Going over Christmas I've had no issues playing 36, just make sure you start your first round before 8AM and your second round before 1PM.

First, boo generals (former lynchburg college alumni and I worked at HSc for 2 years haha).

, I’ve never really had an issue with their greens being slow. I enjoy paspalum as it’s less grainy than Bermuda and it can take heavy abuse/traffic. I love it as fairway grass.

Forever Changing at this point.......
