Toughest Course You've Played In MN

As I'm scrolling through twincitesgolf.com looking at which courses will be open this weekend, I scroll past the name Willingers, and it reminded me of the time it really humbled me in the worst way. I went down there knowing it was supposed to be a difficult course, but I was playing well at the time and didn't think it would be an issue...I got gobbled up that day. Probably lost at least a half dozen balls and doubt I kept it under 90. It must've been 5-6 years ago now and I feel a return visit is in order! It got me thinking, what is the toughest course YOU'VE played in Minnesota?

Was on a family vacation up near the Boundary Waters summer of 2016 and brought my clubs along with the hopes of getting out one morning and either playing Giants Ridge or The Wilderness @ Fortune Bay. Would have loved to done both but chose the Wilderness as it was only 20 minutes away. Played by myself and the course was essentially empty. I was able to get around in less than 3 hours. A lot of fun shots out there and beautifully manicured. Broke 80 as well which make it a very nice day.

See, that's what's funny about this stuff. I shot the lowest round of my life out at Stoneridge. I was a member there one year and really got to know the course well. It's definitely beat me up plenty of times, though...especially when the wind is up!

The back 9 at The Jewel in Lake City will test your game. Hard to break 40 on it.

The Classic at Maddens is the toughest I've played. The Craguns courses are tough as well, but that's because they are goofy/tricked up target golf. I've never played Hazeltine though.

Hazeltine is tough but I'd give the nod to Willingers.

The Classic at Maddens had the fastest (13-14ish) greens I've ever played about 5 years ago, they weren't nearly as fast last summer. Dakota Ridge in Morton, with any amount of wind, is the hardest course I've played in Minnesota. 20mph makes some of the holes unbelievably hard. Deep, thick rough with fescue and big, fast, undulating greens. Great layout, great course.
