Vintage MacGregor MT irons help

Having trouble nailing down the year and specs (lengths, lofts) for these irons. Any gurus out there? Thank you!

Not a guru by any stretch, but these irons are from 1974 (Source: The "Kaplan Book"). The Kaplan books aren't all that big on spec charts, although in all fairness I'm not sure the full MacGregor catalogs were either. I believe at that time MacGregor standards were still 37 inches and 32 degrees for the 5 iron, but they had such an active custom shop any given set still around today might well vary from that somewhat.

I spent a number of years as a tax accountant. People used to ask me how I carried all of that knowledge around inside my head. My answer was "I don't have to. I just have to know where to look it up." Same thing often applies to knowledge of classic golf equipment, but that subject is way more interesting than taxes I assure you!

I was in my second year of playing in 1974, and I remember seeing these in the pro shop of the course I played most often. Although I came to like other brands more in later years, at the time I thought those irons were beautiful and still do.

II thought I was a Macgregor Guru but every time I think so someone posts something different. I have never ever seen a set of MTs with the MT stamped that way. And I have never seen a set of MTs with that type of muscle. Another puzzling thing is the way the "by Macgregor" is stamped. Scooch look and see if those have serial numbers on the ferules. If they start out SO then they are custom order. Also noticing that the soles have a VIP flavor grind and I do know the difference between a standard MT and a split sole. But then again Shallowface may be correct and I may be in left field. Just blew the pic up some and see some of the red ferrules on some of the irons that is another tell tale sign these may be custom jobs

2L2H39 on the ferrules. Is there a serial database? Can't tell you about grinds.

BTW 8 iron has a different shaft and plain ferrule.

I got the same set in a lot I bought, 2-9 but the 8 is missing. 1L2H39 serial. I also got a set of Louise Suggs Colokrom 3-9 with the 5 missing, had MT4 CF4000 5 iron thrown in. 

what year is that MT from?  1970's?

Was given a set of these that my Dad played from 74 to the early 80s.  They’re off to CA for a full refurb job!
