Yet another Sand Valley-related thread...

Going to Sand Valley on a Tues/Wed for the first time. We’re doing Sand Valley around 1p on the first day and then Mammoth Dunes around 7a on the second day. What else should we do/play and how would you fit it in?

Play the sandbox/par3 course.

also consider maybe some gambling with a few drinks on the big putting green behind the bar.

if you want another 18 at some point lake arrowhead is only a few minutes away.

I'd play SV or MD again. If you want a round elsewhere that is close-

Open to driving ~ hour then you have some more options.

So don’t try to do Lawsonia?

Lawsonia and Wild Rock would top the list for me if you don't mind driving an hour/hour+.

After our morning round at Mammoth Dunes, we’re wondering if we should replay SV or MD or go to somewhere like Lawsonia...

Assuming you are already playing The Sandbox after your SV round the day before then yes, definitely head to Lawsonia and play the Links course.

Nice. One thing I'll say is definitely take your time at the Sandbox. I would give myself enough time to at least play it twice in a row. Once with wedges and once with putters or something else. Saw one group playing an entire hole with just drivers. It's a blast and perfect way to spend the afternoon after an AM round on SV. Tehy give you a pencil bag so you can just bring a handful of clubs out there. There is also a massive canoe filled with ice and beer at the first tee.

How much time should I leave myself to explore the grounds / warm-up before our first round?

If you are going to Play Sand Valley first they are now directing people to go park in the upper lot and use the range up there, if you are playing mammoth first they will have you park in main lot and then shuttle (2 minute ride) down to the big range. They have put tighter covid restrictions in place as of last weekend and indoor dining in the main clubhouse is for resort overnight guest only. I would say your play your round and then go to the proshop after. Craigs porch is open for any golf or overnight guest.

Do I need to make a tee time for Sandbox?

yes 100%! And it can sell out so you need to jump on that right away. I know someone who went there this year and couldn't get on the sand box because his group just assumed you could walk on any time.

What a wonderful time at SV. The scope of the property is incredible - I couldn’t help but feel like I was visiting some sort of adult golf theme park. Sandbox was a beautiful nightcap after playing SV and Lawsonia Linka was a tough walk after walking Mammoth Dunes earlier in the day. I think fatigue set in... Can’t wait to return to all the aforementioned courses. And I have a thought: do you think people love SV and MD because they’re easier courses?

Does SV have a lighted putting green for night time antics?

I do not think it is lighted for the intention of putting at night but the mammoth putting green is right off the back patio and they have the patio well lit so I am sure there is enough light for night putting.

Yes that is the Keiser model, make enjoyable courses that are remarkable for the visual beauty and unique architecture. Look at his direct competition in WI which is Kohler, yeah Whistling straits and Black Wolf Run are awesome courses but they absolutely murder you and are completely punished for bad shots. Sand Valley and all of Kiesers properties are built for the retail golfer. I am a 15 handicap and shot a 80 at Mammoth a few weeks ago and have a blast every time I play MD, I had four birdies and two shots at eagle in a round two weeks ago when I played and that never happens for me. I am fortunate to have a lake home 4 minutes away from Sand Valley and buddies always come up to play and leave saying how much fun they had playing the courses.
