Baby oil or silicone for carbon putters??

Guys - What do you find to be the best, easiest way to protect a carbon or Oil can finished putter. I have 2 carbon Mills putters that are new to me that I want to protect. Thanks

I wouldn't. That stuff reacts with fertilizers and attracts dirt...Prolly okay if you're gonna store it.

I use CRC Silicone(Electrical Grade) Or something odorless. Or a silicone cloth. I usually store one of these in the bag in case it gets wet. Also if the inside of the cover gets wet during play, let it dry out before you use again.

I have used baby oil on Mills black oxide putters for years. The finish looks as good as the day I bought them.

Keep your putters dry and away from fertilizer.

Non water base silicone would be best.

If you worry not getting the right one, get one from a gun store...you should find one easily.

Keep it clean and oiled, especially when you are playing in a wet condition.

I use an SC oil cloth (silicone) on a routine basis, but I've also used Johnson's Baby Oil for years and never had a problem with it either.

There are as many sure fire ways to oil a putter as there are to bull up a pair of shoes or boots, and everyone's got their own trick and their own pet hates. Ultimately, as long as you're not leaving it in a saturated headcover in a stifling car boot for the best part of a week you'll have no problems with any of the methods that a search will throw up.

For shoes, wet bull them with a synthetic velvet cloth under running cold tapwater with regular black Kiwi polish - NOT Parade Gloss - and every tenth layer use blue shoe polish to deepen the lustre. Circular strokes at first, then parallel ones to finish. No need to use Evian or to faff about with naked flames as some will have you believe. ;)

I've heard of people who use 3in1 oil, wd-40, gun oil, food silicone, and baby oil. It all seems a bit of a hassle, but I do love these putters and definitely do want to care for them. Keep the thoughts and suggestions coming. Thanks

I'm no expert but it seems that a lot of people say to never use anything with petroleum in it....I think WD-40 has it. Supposed to 'eat' away the paintfil.....but I've also read where people swear by the stuff and it has done nothing to their paint. Just to be safe, I use a pure silicone spray.

+1 for WD-40. Quick shot every week or two into the headcover. Still looks like new after 2 years.

the cnc silicone electrical grade. I asked chip from C&L and he said this is the best for the carbon steel.

Although I heard wd-40 is not good for the paintfill. You dont want anything w/ petroleum in it.

I have used a gun oil called barricade for several years and it works great. I just come in, give the putter a good spray and put it back in the cover. My Circa doesnt look new by and stretch but I am always suprised how well the finish has held up.

When I purchased my first Cameron several years ago, it actually came supplied with a can of Phillips Shotgun oil. It must have been what was recommended - I stilll use it.

I use a silicon cloth from a gun shop, and it works great. I think spraying silicon attracts too much dirt. The thin film the cloth provides is just enough to protect without getting really greasy.

WD40 does eat away at paintfill . . . ask my old Circa 62.
