x20 tour vs x22 tour

better overall iron????
I have been gaming the x22 tours for a couple of rounds. I have found the feel of these clubs are exceptionally better, but the forgiveness "seems" less than the x20tour iron. So saying that i think its performance is lacks a little bit. I thought the with the new notch weighting etc..... it was going to be a better/forgiving tour iron than the x20 tours?? Has anyone had any of the same experiences? or experiences at all with these clubs????

I have hit both. but have not played both.... when shopping for new clubs I had hit the X-20 tours and liked them alot. But waited for the X-22 tours to be released and also liked them alot, and pulled the trigger on them. Am very satisfied thus far. I did not notice a loss of forgiveness.

also, i wouldnt say their performance lacks... they're not meant to be misshit =) , but sposed to be 'more' forgiving when you do.

I've had both with Nippon shafts. The X-20 Tours have rounder edges and aren't quite as nimble at shotmaking. The X-22 Tours are more crisp and precise, but with sharper edges, they require a bit more skill for clean hits in soft conditions. As for forgiveness, the heel and toe correction is about the same. In my view, the newer model is a small step toward being more of a finesse/player's iron. The X-22 Tour also seems a bit softer at impact. I got horrible stingers from my X-20 Tours with the Flighted PX until I had them reshafted.

Only hit the X-20 tours at the store, but went out with my X-22 tours today and played nine, they felt great, and the forgiveness was there, very pleased with them, I am a 12 capper and i had no trouble with them, it was like I had my X-18's but the X-22 tours felt much better and looked better too... Distances were pretty much same, hard to tell wind was 20mph, but I give the X-22 tours an A

I found this as well. I have been testing some clubs, to find something more forgiving to put in the bag this year. I found that the x20 tours were more forgiving, and felt better then the x22 tours. However when I was swing well, the X22 tours were giving me better results. I also found that the x22 tours provided too much feedback on a poorly struck shot. There was more vibration from a slight toe on them, than on my 695mbs.

Bums me out that there is no GW with either of these. That reason alone may make me get X-18 PS or AP1's.

GW ?

Sorry. Gap wedge.

yeah...that sucks ! I wonder why they left the GW out ? Even the Titleist AP2 has a GW!

you dont want a GW that matches the set anyways. All is it is an PW w/ more loft...but without the wedge grooves and bounce, etc. If you're playing the 22_tours, grab a real wedge. I'm sure there are alot of people here that will back me on this.

It's personal preference. Using your theory, you don't need a PW for the set either. Look, I prefer a matched GW when the PW is that strong. It brings the set back to more realistic lofts. Think of the GW as a PW from 20 years ago. It's just another full shot club for me. Buying a set of cavity back game improvement irons, then adding a blade GW to them just makes no sense at all.

I'm playing the 20 tours. Checked out the 22's and there is no way they are as forgiving as the 20's. They do look nice and might feel a little better. But, if forgiveness is what you need, the 20's seem better in that respect. I'm not sure why they went even more playerish with the 22's. They are close to the X-forged now. At least the 20 tours were a nice medium between the X-forged and regular X-20's.

Sound familiar? This is exactly how a lot of people on here feel about the positioning of the i10 within the Ping line. You'll hear a lot of people say the i5 is a more true mid point between the "S" series and the "G" series. When I first saw the X-22 Tour, I had the same impression as yipsy1 - not as close to the middle as the X-20 Tour.

  • 9 years later...

I still play these to this day although the faces are pretty worn but i just can't find anything that outperforms them at all.

I'm also not a big fan of these jacked lofts so i've been comparing like for like loft for loft so maybe thats where i've been broken down.

I was gona go X-Forged recently with C-Taper lites as i liked the feel after playing the PX Flighted for years. I also tried PXI but they are a totally different animal after the smoothness of the PX flighted.

Blast from the past reply 9 years later and they've stayed in my bag :)
