Recognize these vintage Mizuno Altron irons

I happen to have the other set, I have searched and never been able to find these anywhere. Actually my set is 3 thru 9 , I lost my pitching wedge quite awhile back and that is what fueled my searching. I have never had any problems hitting good shots with as good as to be expected consistancy for a 10 capper. Do you want to sell you pitching wedge????? lol... Frank.

My dad uses a Mizuno Scramble set..

Instead of GW and PW it has a 10 and 11 Iron O_O

So they DID make another set! Hilarious. Actually my golf buddy at the time bought a set as well...he was a former Olympic pole vaulter and could hit these a TON. I'd watch that and then get up and swing for the fences and of course bad things would happen. Once my ego finally let me admit that I was a club (or two) shorter than him I could play these fairly well. My son plays them now and will hit a wedge 140 yards.

I bought the set as a 3-PW and then added the SW, 1 and 2. I'm going to give him my MX-23s so I was thinking of putting the set up for sale. If you're interested, send me a PM.

I played these for a couple of years. Tested them against the Ping Eye 2's and actually preferred the Altron's.

Lamkin tour wrap, good condition...this cast offering was a bit of a surprise to me when I did a double-take on the stamp of 'Mizuno' on the sole recently when rifling amongst my giant collection of old clubs, but I do remember using it for half a season. What's funny is that I just chalked it up as "the Altron" (i.e. yet another one of those clubs Dad gave me that he picked up gawd-knows-where...), never paying much attention to it being a Mizuno for all these years.

Great bounce on it, worked well in gliding through sand, solid feel on full shots too.

I have a set of Altrons I have used since 1986. I had them re-shafted with TT regular flex shafts about 1995. The original shafts were a little too stiff for me. My pro told me he would love to sell me a new set but my Altron heads were about as good as anything else available at the time and just recommended different shafts. I have the 1-iron through PW but no longer carry the 1, 2, or 3 since the advent of hybrids. Honestly, if I hit a bad shot it's not the fault of my Altrons.

I got a set of these out a dumpster where I go for boxes. They have basically new Lamkin grips on them I have no idea why they were tossed. Will be a cheap backup set I guess for me to match the old dumpster dive Mizuno stand bag I got at another time lol.

Had a set of these back in the mid 80's. The square grooves tend to shred your golf ball with the wedge and short irons.

I bought this set of Mizuno Altron irons at a Nevada Bob's in the mid 80s and have no idea what the specs are on them. Something tells me they may have been targeted towards Europe rather than the US market.

 

They appear to be an early attempt at "game improvement" irons based on the cavity back. They are cast, no offset, very thin topline (with the cavity visible on some lofts), with DynaLite 1100 "frequency matched" shafts.

 

Anyone recognize them or have ever played them? Any specs (loft, lie, bounce, etc.)?

I still have my set from the 80s, minus the 4i. Here are old pics of my 3i.

My dad was a golf ho before they were called hos back in the 80s. This set is one that he handed down to me eventually when he got a new set. I have played many rounds with them as a kid but alas, I don't have the specs. And the original grips are a little brittle now to say the least. I don't care to play them at all any more. I keep the set for nostalgia but I would not think twice about letting it go if somebody wanted it.
