taylor made burner irons vs. r9 irons............discuss

how do you think they compare in all respects?

it the o9 burner considered a r7?

I hit both a couple of days ago and imo the burners felt much better. The face of the r9's felt hard for some reason. The burners feel pretty good for a cast club. I didn't get any numbers performance wise so I can't comment on that.

Here was what I gather. The Burners are a tad bit longer in length,stronger lofted, and have a bit more offset. The Burners are said to have each individual iron built to perform specific to that iron not a set built around a 6 iron. The R9 has hollow design with invert cone tech and new specific foam to enhance feel and keep vibration down.
Have to hit them against each other to really see/feel difference.

I have already posted my review on the r9 irons, so I will just paste the part about my comparison to the 09 Burners here to save anyone the trouble of finding my review.

"09 Burner vs r9s: I feel this will be a tough decision for many. The 2 sets are quite similar, but different. They both have different positives and negatives.

In a direct comparison with the 09 Burners and the r9s, I noticed that the wedges are not quite as compact as the Burners, and the 3,4 and 5 are not quite as big (but the r9s are hollowbacks). The r9 set seems more like a "set" than the Burners if that makes sense. There is not as much of a change in size throughout the set as there is with the Burners.

I did not get along with the soles of the Burners as I seemed to get more fat shots than usual. I suspect I needed to bend them a couple degrees flat but did not want to scratch up that beautiful finish. The Burner soles did work great in the rough though. The soles of the r9 feel great so far, and I have not felt that hard bounce yet even though they are the same stock lie as the Burners."

The 09 Burners are 1 degree stronger in loft across the set, and have a more muted feel than the r9s. The Burners also have progressively longer shaft legnths that never felt right to me. When I was playing the Burners I would occasionally get what I call a "hot shot" that would go literally 20 yards further than I anticipated. TaylorMade says they have addressed this with the r9s, but only time will tell if they succeeded on that one, but so far I have not had any suprise hot shots.
