putter cover that won't leave scratch marks?

Title says it all. Apart from avoiding velcro closures, are there any brands or materials to look for (or avoid) or any substitutes for normal covers?

Look at the new Bettinardi covers. They have a neoprene enclosure on the back that will allow the putter to slide in and out with no scratches. The nylon ones fit a bit snugger (which is good) than they vinyl ones.

I prefer the Odyssey magnetic covers.

Byron Morgan is using alot of Snap Fit (magnetic closure) headcovers. They're great, IMO.

Bead blasted stainless steel is pretty resilient, so most will not have problems there. However, any gloss black oxide will easily scratch on the hook side of velcro. Cameron's black pearl finish scratched pretty easily. The Bettinardi Black Carbon series can scratch up as well.

Just wondering...if it's a well-known problem - then what is the well-known solution? Maybe call Scotty and Bob and see what type of covers they send out with those two putters?

I have a Black Pearl T10 and a Black Oxide Industrial. Both are brand new never to course but both have been in and out of headcover (especially the T10) and I have never scratched either with Velcro headcover.

For awhile, the AM&E velcro cover was the "only game in town." There was no solution, other than being careful taking the cover off and putting it on, so as to avoid contact with the hooks.

Now, there are options. In the last 2-3 years, Bettinardi has developed the cover with a partial neoprene enclosure down the back, made for them by Belding. Magnetic snap fit covers have also been developed in this time frame. One reason for the development of these alternatives was the problem of the plastic hook side of the velcro scratching oxide finishes (black oxide; oil can).

PS: Iliac is another good option. Very "old school" looking putter covers.
