Do colleges provide equipment?

No not really. Some will provide clothes and balls. Some will just provide balls. Depending on the money they have to spend. Normally the things they provide for sure are golf balls for tourneys only, The team golf bag, and also shirts. That is the norm.

exactly...it depends on the college and the amount of money they are provided. I talked to a D3 coach and he was telling me how his team gets custom pants w/ logos, 2 pairs of shoes, gloves, balls, bags, shirts, etc. It sounded really good but im sure that not all colleges do that. Some might just provide uniforms but it all comes down to the amount of money the are allowed to use.

I played D3 golf from 94-97, small program, no recruiting. We did, however, get unlimited Titleist Professionals, bags, footjoys (1 pair per year), and we could buy Titleist/Cobra clubs at cost (I remember paying $15 per iron for DCI's). Think it all depends on the school's budget because we were not getting anything from Titleist, that is for sure.

Top programs in D-I will get a lot of free equipment through manufacturers. For the smaller schools, it all depends on the budget. Here is what I get, and I'm at a decent D-III program: ProV1's or X's with school logo. Two dozen at the start of the season, and then a sleeve or two every day of each tournament. 5 shirts, pair of pants, rainsuit, umbrella, 2 hats, gloves, one pair of shoes, half sleeve windshirt, fleece. For equipment most of the OEM's are very generous. You wouldn't believe the prices on the stuff. Hope that helps.

At my D3 school we get two dozen titleist ProVs at the beginning of the season. And then usually a sleeve or two for each tournament depending on how many days they last. Last year the women's team got IZOD clothing and the price was reasonable considering all that we got: 2 shirts, 1 sweater, 2 shorts, 1 skort, 1 pair of capris, and 1 belt. Team bags aren't free but two pairs of footjoy shoes every year are.

It definately depends on the College you are talking about. Many DI programs can and will get a player anything he or she needs. In DI golf players are allowed to revieve season ending rewards at the end of the year which are allowed to cost up to a certain amount. The coaches can then estimate a year end Value to the club and total up what the total equipment will cost and if it is under a certain amount it can sually be given as a year end award. That is what i have come to understand through various discussions with players and people.

I think that most schools will give you a bag, balls and uniforms (like shoes, some shirts and shorts/pants, windshirts, raingear, etc.). Thats what I got from my school (D1), all with my school logo. As far as clubs go I think a school can't just give their players clubs, but if I want to get clubs I can buy them through my coach and get them for almost nothing.

depends on school if the college is ranked around the top 50 in the country pretty much they get what ever they want for the players on the team from the companies and it does not come out of the schools budget they are given tot he team due to the team success....usually it is around the top 50 to 40 for sure they get it.....im not sure about D2 or D3 or NAIA

I played for an OK D1 school (think Double national championships in basketball a couple years ago). We got clothes (shirts, hats, pants, windshirts, raingear, workout clothes, workout shoes), balls (pro v1/v1x), shoes (FJ), travel bags for clubs and clothes. Then we'd get good deals on clubs through the reps.

Also, at the end of our Junior year, our coach would give the soon-to-be seniors a dollar amount with which they could redo their bag, and whatever it came to over that dollar amount was all that we'd have to pay. Rescue mid tp, Ping MB wedge, and 690.CB's w/PX's didn't cost me a dime. He called it our Senior "gift."

But there are tops D1 teams that get whatever they want for clubs for free.
