Cougar Ti Cat 12 Piece Package Set good or not?

Hi all,

I am new here so please be easy on me. I tried a forum search but did not find any results.

I am new to golf, I have played a few times, but don't have my own clubs. I am interested in buying some clubs though. I don't want to spend a lot of money, I am not sure I will like playing much, and not sure if I will actualy use them. I did find this set though Cougar Ti Cat 12 Piece Package Set. The price is what I want to spend, is this a waste of money? Is there a better set to get for not much money? The price on this set about every place is $130.

Improper equipment can cause you to get the wrong impression of the game. Unfortuantely, golf is an expensive sport that takes some investment to experience correctly. See if there is a friend that has some clubs or take some lessons from a Pro who may have clubs you can try.

Find a friend who already plays golf and knows equipment. Make a trip to your local neighborhood play it again sports.

spend $ 75-100 on a set of Tommy Armour 845 irons.

spend 20 on a driver (Taylor made Burner Bubble, Callaway big bertha).

spend 20 on a putter, and off you go.

Do not buy the cougars, chances are a club may break the first time you play with them.

Skip the Cougar set. Good advice to buy quality used gear. Find a GOOD local pro shop. Generally they will have a decent collection of used clubs. I picked up a set of used Nike Ignite irons for $75 this weekend for a friend that just started golfing. Deals on good equipment are out there.

Take a friend and go to a thrift shop. Clubs from 20 - 40 years ago are almost as good as whats out now, we're just hammered by the comercial appeal of new and shiney.

Learn your swing, read the books and magazines, then see if anybody here has a spare set they're will to part with cheap. Hell, send me the shipping cost and I'll send you a set of irons a neighbor gave to me. They're some Gary Player model with graphite shafts, not the best sticks out there but their better than Cougars!

So staying away from the cougars is a CALLAWAY MensTop-Flite Golf Club Complete Set any better?

The price is twice about 230 for everything.

maybe you should try posting a want to buy ad in the marketplace section.

there's a lot of club fiends around here, maybe they'll be obliged to kick you a set for a good price. being that they're for a new golfer, i'm sure someone would come through.
