Joining a Club Corp Country Club

Recommended Posts

I am looking at joing a country club. I live in the DFW area and pretty much all the clubs are club corp. I live in Collin County and narrowed it down to 3 clubs there all about the same price and distance from house, The couple around me that not Club corp seem to either overpriced or do not offer as much.

The YEX membership looks like a great deal and what I can tell is almost cheaper then doing public courses. It's a great deal I would qualify for a little over year those rates so this seems like the best route to take. Longer term I am okay with the full membership. The biggest issue is my spouse will turn 40 in early next year. If that is the case then it might be better to go with the full membership since there waiving initiation right now. Also does anyone know if you can add a parent to your membership? We spend a lot of time with them and that means I will be paying guest guest fees for them. I know that can add up quick.

I have a few questions for people who belong to Club corp clubs.

Would you recommend the club you belong to?

How much above membership should I plan on paying for all those extra's. I am not worried about the cost of eating food in the restuarant. we already spend money on that and to be honest I think I may save money eating there instead going out. The biggest thing I worry about is $1500-$2500 extra bill a month. Between classes for the kids and events for the wife and add tournements into the mix and it looks like it may really add up. $300-$400 for events is not really a big deal on top of the membership if we are spending a lot of time there.

Has anyone joined a social membersip and used the ONE program for golf? From what I can tell you only get 2 rounds a month plus cart fee this way. If you get 2 rounds a month per club then this is pretty good deal. In that case I am probaly better off joining a place like Stonebriar or Gleneagles since they have better clubhouses and use them for the social part.

I carry a social + ONE at La Cima. It's 2 rounds per month beteeen most of the clubs (excludes Gleneagles, Stonebriar and Timarron). Tee times are Sunday at noon through Friday at noon. ONE is great if you travel a lot as the benefits are 2 rounds per club per month outside DFW and no blackout days/times. Given that I have an 11 month old at home...2 rounds per month is great for me these days.

Of course if you have friends that are members at Gleneagles, you can have them book the Saturday tee time and then you're just charged a $20-25 cart fee per round. I know a few La Cima guys that do this. They chose to pay La Cima $150/month vs $30k down and $700/month at Gleneagles. They still spend $800-1000 most months at Gleneagles...but are starting out with $550 in lower dues and no initiation.

Also note that you only get 50% off F&B at your local club.

I'm a yex one member at canyon creek. GE and stonebriar clearly are in another class. Great facilities and both have 2 courses. I'm in it for the golf more than the social side. I use GE fairly often for dining and play there occasionally. Keep in mind most social memberships restrict times and days you can play. PM me if you have any other questions.

I ended up joining under YEX. Great deal you really can't beat it. Brookhaven was offering 25% off the monthly rate until Feb. Hard to say No to that. Plus it's only $50 for the cart plan. When you factor in the tennis for the wife and 50% off food you really can't go wrong. My wife really like the idea which surprised me. You get the YEX rate for 24 months both you and your spouse needs to be under 40.

I decided The social at Stonebriar or Gleneagles really doesn't work if you want to play golf. In the last week I been able to get out on the course 4 times this week. The great thing is I just head out to the course and play. With it getting darker during the week I was only able to play 6 holes on Friday. The great thing with the membership it really doesn't matter. Before I alway have the need to feel like i needed to finish the course in time since I was paying for every round.

Mctrees,

I am curious on how this works. How do you get the by with just the cart Fee at GlenEagles? Does that mean a social member playing with a member only pays cart fees? Are you still restricted to the 2 rounds per month. I have a few buddies that are social member at stonebriar and they are subject to the blackout. This might be a way around that for them.
