Summer Heat and Baked Greens

The title isn't what it seems like. I'm a player here in AZ and this time of season is when I start looking forward to getting my gamer ball for the summer ground. With the greens even on the best of courses rolling around a 13 if lucky, I need a ball that can stop on it.

 

I usually game a TP5 or a ProV, but is there any tips or suggestions for a mid handicapper like myself for a ball that can handle harder greens without breaking the budget? I mean nothing above about 35. I still have plenty of ProV and TP5'S but I'm planning on playing A LOT OF GOLF. Hence, will need a lot of balls. And water.

I've been seeing the TaylorMade Tour Preferred ball for $39 here in NC. I know it's a tad over your limit, but they are one of, if not the best balls I have ever played. They spin great and feel awesome around the green and especially off the putter.

You know what, I've always seen those and wondered how they compare to TP5? I personally thought those were close to best of all time.

I think they perform as well as the Pro V's, but feel better. I look to the sky to see if Jesus is returning if I ever see Pro V's on sale. I know the end is near.

Haha agreed. So impossible to ever find a sale on ProVs, but in other news..I thought I'd get more replies because I'm also trying to get some advice with playing in extreme heat.

I don't have a problem with the long game, but it's the 120 and in that seems to never hold on the baked greens. I don't know what type of shots to hit is basically what I'm trying to say. Lots of 10 foot par putts.

Wilson FG Tour has plenty of stopping power on the greens. Price point is pretty good depending on your area.

Watch the forums and load up when they have a sale on prior gen balls. I bought a ton of high quality balls last year off of a site called "woot" for cheap.

X-out and practice Pro V's are easy enough to find and should be in your budget. You won't notice any difference in performance either.

Yeah, I have tried rockbottomgolf's practice ProVs and they are awesome. But I just was thinking about some new golf balls to try. Thanks for all the suggestions. Will be looking at Em.

Baked crusty hard greens are tough. Just bare in mind that in many cases what you are seeing are conditions where the best players in the world cannot stop the ball either.

What to do? It is rub of the green. Play a ProV short to bounce up to the hole.

Embrace the conditions because it will make you better when you have to try different shots and strategies to get the ball close.

And a tip specific to your situation; practice 10 foot putts!

It seems everyone is getting all warm and fuzzy when ProV's are mentioned.

I myself do like them, but don't like their price. So I play Callaway SuperSoft, or the Srixon AD-333 (Zstar XV in 'Murica). Sure they're bound to spin less, but they're like ½-⅓ of the price.

Hard and fast greens, play short of the pin, sometimes short of the green even.. Let it bounce and roll on. Can't attack high with spin as the ball won't grip..

Yeah, I love those supersofts. If you hit Em right, you can get Em to grab food sure. The heat in AZ is a blessing and a cursing, because I can hit a 3 wood or a 1 iron and just roll it out to 260 but dammed if I try to spin a gap. Haha thanks for the tips, really look forward to the summer now.

Only glancing from my phone and without my glasses, I misread the title as Summer Heat and Baked Beans. That is a bad combination.

Reading the title properly, I like a softer ball when the greens and fairways are baked.

If possible maybe try to play runners up to the green if there aren't any hazards blocking you from doing so. Or like someone posted above, take a little less club or a short swing with the right club and llay it shorter and have it run

More to topic, I have found that both the Penta and Lethal balls spin great into the green and are wonderful to watch off a driver as well.

Gotta love Melbourne and the heat we are having!!!

Having said that it has been raining this week, yesterday was overcast but humid as hell and today tomorrow and Sunday are hot.... would of thought the greens wouldn't of been that baked from it. We have had up down weather here. Hot for a few days then rain then hot again so thought they be a little softer than baked?
