The greatest game every played

Anyone read it?

Read a little bit of it in one of the magazines. Just bought it and was wondering if anyone had read it and what they thought? What is the first half of the book about, I bought it to read about the match at the end but is the first half about the two amateurs or golf in general? Thanks

I believe there was a movie made about it. It's about Frances Ouimet and his golf career. Pretty good story.

Its an awesome book. It really tells a lot of the story that the movie doesnt, such as the earlier lives of Harry Vardon, Francis Ouimet, Walter Hagen, and a couple others.

 

I suggest you go back and watch the movie once you are done with the book. Some of the scenes take on a quite different meaning once you understand them in the context of the whole story.

Haha yea Oski I changed my post, I just looked at the first couple chapters and thought I had ordered the wrong book. The Pebble Beach story is the last couple of chapters.

Excelent book, I picked it up to read after I saw the movie. If this was a perfect world run by golfers then the movie would have been an 8 hour epic that followed the book to a tee. The book does an excelent job of discussing the culture of golf preceding and following the 1913 US Open. I would also highly suggest The Grand Slam and The Match, both by the same author.

Mark Frost is the author, and if you liked The Greatest Game you should definitely read The Match. It would be great if they made a movie out of that one too!

Yes, it is a great book, and probably my favorite serious golf movie.

 

Also, i just started reading "Paper Tiger" its a book about an amaetur golfer who self descructed in his freshman golf tryouts and fell to a 15 handicap. It takes you through his day by day journey over the next year to a +1 handicap and his quest to play on the PGA Tour.

 

The book is inspiring, and freaking hillarious.

 

Check it out for a very enteraining read.
