Before its time?

Just picked up a Futura and I have to admit that it is not as strange looking to me now as it was when it first came out. I think it is because of all the other crazy shaped putters that have been released since the intro of the Futura. Was it before its time?

I guess people don't like it because it doesn't follow the traditionnal designs that scotty usually brings to the market. the same thing happened to the detour. If people want a radical design, most of them aren't gonna pay 250+ for it, and don't really care if it's a scotty or not. that's sad because both detours and futuras are great putters. I still game my futura a few rounds a year and it's a great forgiving putter.

I think it probably could have been before it's time. Designs like the TM Spider and JAS Craze One seem pretty normal now. I have a Futura as my back up. It's one of my all time favorites.

loved mine until my dad "borrowed" it a few years back, lol. the idea of moving the weight so far back was ahead of it's time and shows up in other putters today as well as many drivers.

I've never actually owned one, but from what I've tested out on it I don't think they're that bad. I suppose it does seem a little before it's time now that you look at it. They're really balanced though, so easy to swing with the pendulum motion and not even think about it. It is sort of a radical style, but I think that can be gotten used to.

I purchased one last fall and enjoy it. I've been a fan of scotty's mallets and have both the Futura and Futura II...very forgiving putters IMO

He called it Futura for a reason! Better looking than a Spider by a mile. Hey, whatever rolls them to the hole...

i actually like the futura. i know lots of people hated them when it came out, but i thought it rolled the ball nicely. i don't think i could get myself to put one in the bag though...i don't like bulky head putters.

The concept was way ahead of the curve. I never liked the look and the headcover was just as bad, but it was terrific on the greens. Brought me down from 33 to 28 putts during the last two years. The confidence boost was an incredable bonus. Gamed it for 3 years before getting a custom Needle (made by Tom Slighter) which struck me as an upgraded Futura with better front/back weight distribution, stainless steel front and rear plates and made to my own specs.

Agreed. That sound is pretty strange.

 

I have one that used to go out every once in a while, but it hasn't in some time.

I too have one. It is money for short putts, but I always had trouble with long putts. I pulled it out again this spring and got the same results. If I could get some control from distance I would bag it all the time

most consistent putter i ever used was a cheap knock-off of the futura made by some no name company. good concept and the balance was excellent.
