Studio Select with BOS 3x Black

Decrease the putter's value

Unfortunately I put my Newport 2 back in it's head cover with some water on it and it has some small places that are rusting. Would sending it to BOS to get a 3x black finish decrease it's value if I ever wanted to resell it? I would love to send it to the custom shop but I can justify $150 to have it refinished.

The only way it would devalue it is if you sold it to someone for less than you thought it was worth.

 

Send it to BOS and have them give it some love...you will love it.

That putter is 303 Stainless. It takes ALOT to get one of them to rust. Is it rust, or discoloration?

You said it's a Studio Select? Because that's definitely stainless steel. I feel like the water in a headcover would dry out before it would even effect the head, but maybe I'm wrong. Discoloration sounds a little more like it to me.

 

I'd just send it to any of the aftermarket finishers and have them do a 3x sandblasting/polished finish on it. Relatively inexpensive and looks great.

 

A black oxide finish on stainless will wear off pretty quick and your only other option (without having it plated) is to have it torched, which I don't know the durability of.

 

Another option would be LaMont's black polymer finish. Maintenance free black finish that works on stainless. Looks great, that's what my X5 is now.

I started thinking about it and maybe it is just discoloration and not rust. Any suggestions what to clean with? Someone on The Cameron Collector suggested Brasso.

Any of the "SS" putters are stainless steel ironically. Studio Stainless, Studio Style, Studio Select.

Does black oxide finish on SS really wear off fast? I was going to send my SC Studio Stainless to Eric (xtraspin) for BO and custom paintfill but my reservations were

the durability of the paintfill. Is it going to wear and look a lot different after being gamed?

It looks great. Did you see/feel any difference on the milling?
