new vs. used golf balls

who buys used to save money?

curious if anyone buys used balls to save money. i've bought a few. some nxt tours and nike ta-2 longs for the cold days. also bought 50 pro-v1's for the shag bag (they had minor scuffing already - nicer than range balls for putting and short game work).

I think most of us have done once or twice. When I get a low on cash the rehashes are the only way to go. The Club has tons of reused golf balls. Most Callaway and Titleist.

Only for the shag bag. I have been told that used balls have a lower compressions than new balls so I won't use them on the course.

 

They have a much truer ball flight than range balls so they offer great feedback on the practice hole and chipping green, plus they are great for my hacker friends who always seem to run out.

The last few years I've picked up golf balls throught the gift certif at the local Buick tourney. It's toward the end of the season and $50 bucks looks real good to a Canadian border golf course in Minnesota, I picked up the percept U tri last year going for $12 a dozen.

I just changed to buying new balls, I had always baught ebay balls. I only did it because I would lose so many per round hitting them into the woods or water. Luckely I can now keep using the same ball or two the whole round.

I bought a dozen Pro V1- and Pro V1x- off ebay. They were in mint condition-no scuffs, cuts, etc. They were perfect. Got them for about $20 a dozen. That's half off and they play just as a ball from sleeve would and they look like them too. Saves me some $$$. I also bought a brand new in box dozen Nike One TW for $16 a couple of weeks ago. Great deal. If you like buying new balls, a dozen of Pro V1's can be had for $30/dozen. That's about $15 off store prices.

I like expensive shafts because after a round, I can be assured of still owning said shaft. Ballz on the other hand are expendable. Just received some 'mint' ProV1x from ebay and they are indeed mint @ just over $20 a dozen.

 

Be careful of how sellers rate their balls. Not many exclude logos and pen markings from their mint or AAAA ratings.

I was using "used" balls for most of last season, but recently switched to on sale golf balls. I'm not good enough to tell the difference, but I find it easier to find a new ball I like on sale, than to find the used Nike ones, which I liked best.

if you trust your seller to provide mint balls for course purposes, they'll play the same for a fraction of the cost. I buy the nr mints for the shag bag.

I buy them without a 2nd thought now for the shag bag but also mint ones for general play. Then if I lose one it doesn't ruin my day like it would if I paid retail. On practice rounds you'll try things you normally would shy away from if you have the chance of putting it in a pond.
