Clicgear swivel knob + umbrella?

I'm in Houston, so summers usually aren't very walkable, but I'm hoping to walk as much as possible. All winter I've been using the Clicgear swivel knob and I'm not looking forward to removing it for the umbrella holder.

So I have a couple questions...

1) How does the normal umbrella holder stand up to wind (assuming the umbrella survives)? Is the upgraded umbrella mount better for the wind?

2) Has anyone tried a universal umbrella mount (non-Clicgear) or something like the Versa-brella that has it's own mount? Any pros/cons? Again, living near the coast, wind-tolerance is a concern.

An umbrella on a push cart becomes a very good sail in the wind. I would not recommend it, but, if you do, you will need to lower the umbrella, every time you are not holding onto your push cart, or, risk it blowing away.

The adjustable umbrella holder might be a little better in the wind, as you can angle it up or down. However, the best option is to lower the umbrella when you're not at the cart.

Make sure you have a good "wind proof" umbrella with vents, e.g. Gust Buster. Even then you still have to be careful in very windy conditions.

I've got the adjustable, and have used it with my Speed Cart, and will say that it seems like there is a lot of additional stress on the handle and the socket on the handle - and the adjustment joints seem stressed. It might be the weight of my umbrella, which is larger and heaver large golf umbrella. Also, due to the size, I stopped toting it around and just went back to the primary one. My main reason for having it wasn't so much for the adjustment as to get a bit more height on the umbrella, but I was still running into it, so just went back to the regular.

The better choice for what I needed was probably just the little stubby extention, or perhaps 2 or 3 of them.

Also, IMO, no other adjustable umbrella mount would be better than the Clicgear, since on the Clicgear 3.x, Rovic, and the newest Speedcarts, having the direct screw mount into the center of the handle has to be the strongest mount there is.

I am in Memphis, probably just a bit more enjoyable for walks come May/June - so I know what you're going through Houston guy. My daughter does use an umbrella fairly often during her summer youth tournaments - and if she doesn't lower the umbrella at greens, she'll get a tipover a couple times a round.

I grew up a little further north, so off-the-course I've always been a raincoat guy instead of an umbrella guy. Down here both can be bad options. Too hot for a raincoat, too windy for an umbrella, and so humid that if you get wet, you never get dry. Sucks living in a coastal swamp.
