Wedge shaft question...

I play C-Taper R Lite in my irons, 1/2” long, std lie/loft which is what my iron fitter had me fit too. Love the irons and hit them great.

I had my SM7 Raws made by Wedgeworks with KBS Tour S 120. They are 1/4” long, 1/2 degree upright. I think they are too stiff, but I like the weight. Everyone seems to play the same or less flex in their wedges than their irons. Im thinking wedges should be 1/2” long too and std lie/loft. I could also use a couple extra yards to fill gaps.

Any way to figure out the right shaft for my SM7’s? I’m thinking KBS R (not Lite) for a softer shaft but still keeps some weight. I don’t like my wedges to feel “light”. My irons are D2, I was thinking D3 or D4 would be good in my wedges.

That’s a perplexing dilemma. I’ve played S400 (132 grams) shafts most of my life and has always been the standard. Recently picked up S300 120 in the SW and LW to gap with my 114 grams iron shafts. Worked out well for me.

Lofted wedges tend to be 1/4” shorter than your PW, so you’re okay. Yes, they should the heaviest swing weight in your iron set and D4 sounds correct. I’ve played up to a D6 so I get the sensation aspect.

115-120 grams of static weight sounds about right based on your iron set. Wedge flex are commonly a “stiff flex” . Looks like the club builder was correct on paper.

I would think in terms of absolute length rather than relative to "standard" since there isn't any consistency across manufacturers.

Some people go shorter all the way through and others will make their wedges the same length as their pitching wedge. There's no rule. (I go in 0.25-inch gaps starting with 9-iron to pitching wedge.)

I had success with the Hi-Rev 2.0, which would give you a 10-gram gap between your irons and wedges with a regular flex. You *should* get more spin with those than the Tour.

Stock swing weights for SM7s are D3 (52) and D5 (58).

Great info. Can a PGA SS help get me the right shaft and swingweight? I got fitted for my 18’s through their tour van experience. Im trying to avoid paying for another Tour Van experience to get fitted for the right shaft. I swing about 80% on my wedges. My tempo is similar to DLIII.

So with SM7’s 1/4” longer than stock...what does that make the SW?

About 1.5 swing weight points heavier. I might trust a PGASS club guy to build to a specified swing weight but would never rely on them for a shaft fitting.
