pro V1X vs. hx tour 56
im currently playing the Xs and in summer the courses get hard so i was looking for more spinn. and ive heard good review of the callaway tour 56's and was wondering who plays them and see if i can get any feedback on people who switch between the two. do they scuff quickly? do they go far? hows the feel? spin off wedges?? anything would be great

THANKS

It seems to me like the cally hx 56s tend to scuff up easier than most premium balls. the 56 is softer and spins more than the prov1x in my opinion, and any distance gain/loss was not noticeable. if you are looking for a softer, higher spinning alternative to the 1x i would switch to the regular proV. performs much like the 56 but is more durable imo.

If you haven't tried the new re-released HX.56 and HX.Tour, you should. They're 100X more durable than the old ones. Dare I say they may be the most durable golf ball on the market. I'm still not a big fan of the 56, but the Tour is a good golf ball.

I played 9 holes with one, and there wasn't a single mark on it until the 9th when I scuffed it a little with a full swing flop over a tree with my spin milled lob. All the little cuts and cover shaving that happened with the old ones is gone now!

I have played a box of the new improved HX Tour 56's and I am currently playing the new improved HX Tours.

I can tell you that even the new improved 56's scuff up very easily. The HX Tour is longer and much more durable but the 56 gives a load of spin on the greens.

Under normal circumstances I would advise you to go for the HX Tour and when you want more spin use the standard Pro V1.

Oh, and in answer to your question the 56 feels much softer and gives more spin than the ProV1x and you won't be sacrificing much distance

The HX.Tour 56 is awesome if you are looking for a high spin ball. Durablility is better than previous models and the ball combines distance and spin wondefully. I would give them a shot.

Every year I try and find a ball that betters the pro v1x, thinking there must be something out there...

Having tried the '56, I found it went a long way off the driver, but it felt a little dead with my short game. I've tried the Srixon, the new Bridgestone and even the Hogan, but for some reason I keep coming back to and scoring best with the pro v1x.

The Improved 56 still gets little cuts in the cover. I don't think it effects the playability of the ball though. I've played 18 holes with only using one, but I wouldn't want to start another round with it...ever... It still isn't as durable as a ProV1x or V1, but I still like the ball better. It is just way more consistent around the greens than the ProV1x and you don't lose any distance. Chipping with the V1x is like a guessing game on how much or if it does check. You always know exactly what kind of spin the 56 is going to produce. Due to that I will continue playing it, until I get my hands on the new TaylorMade balls. I'll try them out as well.

Note...I used to play Balata's, so spin and feel are still very important to me. I just can't hit the harder balls. The 56 is the softest ball that I've played in the past couple of years...
