Weekend Project Completed...B'Stone J36 CB Redux!

Anyone else hate the BLUE? See Pics...

Well, I knew a few months ago when I bought a set of new J36 cavity-backs that I'd most likely reshaft them. Stock Project X were not for me! So this weekend I swapped the PXs out for DGs. While the heads were without shafts, I decided I had to do something about the horrendous blue paint-fill Bridgestone used on the J36 line. So...I removed it; along with the other surrounding paint. Only the Bridgestone "B" is left on the backs of the irons an I gotta say, I like them MUCH better!!!
Here are a couple pics so if anyone else is like me and hates the blue you can see what the irons look like with out it.... :)

That is outstanding! That is exactly what I am wanting to do with my J36 PC's. I experimented with some paint stripper and although it took the blue off fairly easily it also took off that silver paint that covers the rest of the cavity. What did you use to get the blue and black off?

The blue doesn't bother me but I'm a fan of the stripped look. I took all the color off my VR wedges. Maybe I'll strip the J36's as well, it does look less busy. What did you do with your shafts? $?

That's good to know! I didn't realize the entire cavity was painted, I assumed it was just sandblasted. Acetone is the best way I know of to get the paint fill out.

Thanks! I used acetone, Q-tips and toothpics...lol. Some paint-fills come off easier than others. I'll be honest, this was not all that easy....especially getting into the corners and the "36" part as it's very small. I still have some minor amounts of black paint in a couple of the numbers which I'll need to go back and clean out.

The basic technique is to dip a Q-tip thoroughly in acetone (soak it) and rub on the paint (Q-tips are a perfect delivery system because the acetone goes where you want it). Then use the toothpicks to scrape and loosen, then repeat. You'll have to keep doing this as the acetone evaporates. The beauty of using toothpicks to scrape the paint out is they will not scratch! Rub as hard as you want wood < metal.

Looks great. I did it with my J33s and will likely do it with the 36 Combos due to be delivered tomorrow. Historically I have used Q-Tips, Acetone and a needle (instead of the toothpick recommended above).

Thanks for the comments! I was thinking maybe I'd remove the "B" paint as well but that medallion thing looks like it's probably plastic. Didn't want to touch it with Acetone....might melt!

Taking the medallion off would only look good if there wasn't a circle impression left behind. The medallion actually looks kinda cool.
