I've always wanted a set of Ping Eye 2's ever since I was a kid and they were new.  Anyone have any feed back on them w/ BeCu finish?  Are they still great or just out dated?

Thanks

I have had a few sets of them, both + and non +. They are great clubs. Good solid feel and alot of PGA Tour guys still play them. Only drawback is they have a good bit of offset, but if you like that they are fantastic clubs.

i bought a set to try... eye 2 no + . wow great iron.. heard there was a small diff in feel in the coppers.... i didn't think i would like the offset.. but it didn't affect my play one bit .. might have actually made it better.. scored by best with them and still swap them in for the Nike PC's. great iron period.. snag some stainless ones and try them.. you can get a set for under 250 on ebay.

My first set and been playing with them for past 5 years.

I've demoed a Mizuno MP-32 6 iron and used a set of Taylor Made Firesoles (circa 2000). I can say that I seem to hit roughly 10 yards less with the PE2s BeCUs than compared to today's irons. So with a cheapo top flite ball, I hit like 140 or 145 with a 6, whereas I would easily hit a 150, 155 with the MP-32. About 5 yards plus if I use proV1.

Maybe when I drop my handi to below 20, I'll consider a new set of irons.

They are very nice clubs that are very forgiving. I have the stainless steel version no plus. compared to other irons they feel short because they are more lofted than the newer irons today. The taylormade Racs have 44* on their Pw while the eye2's have 50.5* and the pw iron on the racs have less loft then the eye2 9 iron.

I still have a mint set of Eye 2 BeCu green dots 2-LW that I still play. They are as good as anything made today. They feel great and are forgiving. Don't let the weak lofts put you off. They provide a nice high trajectory but do not balloon. The wedges are still the best I have ever played out of bunkers and deep rough.

i still don't understand why people care about the week lofts.. u hit an iron a certain distance with each set.. not every set will hit the same distance even with the same lofts... i am 5 yrds shorter with 5-PW with the eye2's but i know that. its really not that big of a deal...

I am still playing them. The offset does take some getting used to, but

I can't get away from them. As far as the weaker lofts go, I like the fact that they are weak. It makes it harder for people to club off of me in a tournament. Until I bought my Eye2's I had used Macgregor and Hogan blades almost exclusively. O.K., I had a brief stint with a RTG Cleveland set. But to me the feel and feedback of these irons is at least as good as the forged blades I played. The bonus is they are forgiving on mis-hits.

Excellent irons, nice finish. Yes they have weaker lofts when compared to many of todays clubs but they were the norm when the BeCu Eye 2s were made, no big deal, just hit 1 club more. They also hold there value very well, sets in very good condition on Ebay cost as much or more as when they were new.

if the only draw back on these irons are the weak lofts ,I guess you could have them bent 2 degrees stronger or couldnt you do that with pings

I had two sets sold one and had the other ripped off as the buyer moved to florida before paying me. :fool:

still wish I had one set as a backup, still use the sandwedge.
