Career In Golf Industry

How in the world do you get a job in the industry? Not at a club but with the OEMs.

I have a BS. in Business Administration with concentrations in Information Systems Management and Global Supply Chain Management. I currenty work in the Information Technology department for one of the big three automobile manufacturers in the Detroit area but have been wanting and needing a job in the golf industry for many years now. I've also attended the Professional Golfers Career College in Orlando (which I regret so very badly!!!!!!).

I've worked many jobs at the course level. From bag boy, to starter and ranger, to pro shop attendant, to outside service supervisor, etc. I've played golf in high school and at the community college level and currently play to a 2 handicap.

Any advise would be fantastic!

Would an IT job for a golf company be that much different than IT for big 3? I bet you'll make more money and have much better shots of advancement where you are. Then you can play more golf.....

Now, have you bothered even looking at the careers links on the websites?

Callaway golf is hiring a transportation analyst (among 10 job postings) right now, and um, experience in logistics is required. You might qualify, who knows?

TM has several IT openings among other jobs. Cobra, does, etc, etc.

Really the question should be, what are you doing to get one of these jobs? How big of a pay cut will you take, etc. Heck, contact that Harry guy from Callaway who posts on here and get him your resume. If you really want it, start pounding on doors.

Now if you want a job on the R&D side or as a fitter, tour van guy, etc, it might be tougher. But I bet being in the door would make it easier than sitting outside.

You'll probably think I'm full of myself but I'm looking to move from an IT role to more of a marketing position. And to honest I'm not living for the almighty dollar. I want a job that im passionate about and actually look forward to going into the office every morning.

Then go to the PGA website and register to take the PAT. It was only $50.00 when I took it. Any 2 can pass it. that can get you in the door as an assistant somewhere and then get into the P.R.O. But you better be ready for a lot of hours and holiday work for crap pay. You are more than likely going to be broke until you can get class A status.

Thanks for the response but I am looking to land a career with a golf manufacturer and not at the club level. Been there and done that! Not the life I'm looking for.
