GolfWRX and TV HiFi forums

At the moment, I try to upgrade my whole TV-, Home Cinema- and HiFi-system at home, which is why I spend a lot of time in a (German) forum which deals with these products.

So far, I have found this:

1) (good)

Just like here, there are hundreds of guys out there who really know their stuff and who try to help out newbies as best as they can.

2) (bad)

Just like here, there are a few dozens of guys out there who don't care what somebody wants to know, they want to force their ideas on other people.

On GolfWRX:

Q: My swing speed is about 100 mph, I am looking for a smooth mid launch driver shaft, which feels good, but has a very stable tip and doesn't cost more than $ 200,-:"

A 1: "Do yourself a favour and try the [......... insert $ 800 XX-shaft here], it is the best ever."

A 2: "With a 100mph swing speed, it doesn't matter which shaft you use. You might as well be happy with the stock shaft in A-Flex."

In the TV and HiFi Forum:

Q: "I am looking for two reasonable front speakers, which I can use both for listening to music and as buliding blocks for a 5.1 home cinema system, which I want to build over the next year. My living room is 25 sqm (270 sqft) and I don't want to spend more than € 1.000,- for the pair to start with."

A: "Your money is wasted anyway, unless you buy [........insert a pair of 500W speakers which cost about € 18.000,-]. Everything else sucks."

3) (nerve-wrecking):

Just like here, there are fanboys, "haters" and trolls when it comes to specific manufacturers, and there are certain manufacturers which have certain images.

These sterotypes are, (at least when it comes to TVs) in Germany:

Samsung = TMAG

Some swear buy them, because there is no denying that they make good products, but others are annoyed by their short product circle and by the fact that all the sales persons in the big chain shops always want to make you buy them. Many think they are more hype than substance.

Sony = Callaway

They make good products, but many claim that their best days are behind them. Every once in a while they come out with something surprisingly good (with the stress on "surprise"), like the 2013 X-Forged irons or the Triluminos displays.

Panasonic = Mizuno

They are the undisputed leaders in a certain segment (Plasma = forged), but make good products all around. Their fans are not "fanboys", and they refrain from making fun of others, because they are simply convinced by the quality.

Exotic niche brands:

Just like here, there are many people who are convinced that a guy who single-handedly assembles speakers (insert: "putters", "wedges") in his garage in Scotland is 100% certain to produce better quality than a multi-billion company with a research lab similar to NASA.

Now, I am not saying that this could not happen, but I still think that it is not really probable.

I see a gap. There definitely is a gap.

<p>So do I understand correctly, is this the forum where I write how pleased I am with my Clearaudio turntable with tangential tonearm and how there's no way I will ever go back to a spring suspended turntable or pivoted tonerm? Where else could German precision engineering put to a better use than in turntable design! Definitely the Miura blades of audio.

edit: actually... Sony is known to make some very good sounding pretty high end equipment. Think Luxman range - modern and vintage. Very unassuming and classic in look but sounds good and is built like a tank. I'm sure WRXers can draw a lot of parallels to Callaway's players' range and K-mart standard range.

edit 2: Also, talking of guys with a garage in Scotland... maybe this is where we bring in Kondo and alike in Japan and someone better versed than me in JDM golf clubs can find a matching golf brand.
