Golf Games

I just booked my first golf trip in MB, and I am already thinking about how much fun it is going to be for everyone. I have read many MB posts about how slow,frustrating play can be,etc, etc. So it got me thinking that maybe not playing stroke play for every round might be an option. Best guess is that we will all be pretty rusty (coming from the brutal winter in the NE/MW), and there is no real reason to pound something like 700 strokes out over a week of playing, first time out, not including any range time.

 

I have 4 guys, 7 strokes delta in handcaps. Off the top of my head, i was thinking alternate shot play and 2 man scramble as fun alternatives. I think I want to try mixing in RED/White/Blue format. I don't really play golf games so i am short on ideas.

 

Can anyone suggest some more golf games for 4 guys on a golf trip? real goal is to cut down on total strokes everyone takes, for the games to be fun, and not be complex that we become a bottleneck on the course.

Alternate shot is fun, and very fast. But if you guys are rusty you'll probably end up putting even more pressure on your game, no one wants to let their partner down Jo matter how small your stakes might be.

Scramble usually actually slows play.

How about just playing 2 man best balls so if one person is really chopping it on a hole he can just pick up.

Agree with dead solid- would rather play my own ball but 2 man better ball is fun. 6 hole matches mixes up the partners. I just did a golf trip with my Dad and 2 brothers and we switched carts every 6 holes and played 6 hole matches- keeps pairings fresh, fun to trash talk but only 1 ball in play. Stroke off lowest handicap. Pick up at net double bogey.
