Travel w/ JDM Bag?

Given that a jdm bag is several thousands of dollars, do you guys travel w/ your bags and take all the accompanying risk? Or do you have another set for when you travel (or not take clubs at all)?

I never thought twice about taking my usdm set with me, even internationally, but my current bag is 3x-4x the value of my old one and I'm thinking twice about bringing them on my biz trip next week.

I travel with the same set I play at my club. I don't want my game to suffer just because I am not at my home course. Take some additional insurance on your clubs if you fear they could be stolen.

Send the bag ahead FedEx, and you can track it the whole way to wherever. Unless you're flying multiple legs, it takes the bag worry out of a golf trip.

I have thought of going the shipping route but I get free baggage allowance when I travel so it's kind of a waste not to use it.

But yeah, the thought of my bag getting lost or damaged is disturbing enough to consider shipping.

I use a Club Glove Last Bag. Never had a problem. Of course, now that I've said that...

I travel alot through the year, and have a "full" JDM bag, with some expensive stuff. I always use a Cargo Golf hybrid bag when I travel, and it's basically bombproof. That's the one they ask you to stand on in the shops as a test. It's also pretty shocking how many clubs you actually can fit in it, I have the 700 series (I think), and I can fit a full set in there. It's also a lot less bulky than a regular travel bag, that don't give you maximum protection since they are pretty soft.
I have pretty comprehensive travel insurance covering my golf stuff too, so I'm not too worried that it might get lost.

Any recommendations for travel insurance? I was under the impression that insurance would only cover what a USDM bag might cost (US$1-2K).

I have a travel set. Just not worth the risk to me. I play well enough with my back up set, assuming my swing comes with me.

took my set with me to las vegas with club glove.... bubble wrapped it too lol.... no problem here ... also i believe your home owners insurance might cover it

Haha, oh how I wish it were a passive brag. This is the JDM forum though. I would consider my bag an average-priced one, at best.

I take my Miuras with me all the time in my SKB hardcase because they are insured by SKB!

Most might consider it risky, but i just put mine in a carry bag with a couple of towels threaded between the dividers. As long as they are wedged against the dividers, the clubs don't move. Then I'll wrap another towel around the heads and take the heads off the woods and put them in the pockets. Rain cover over the top and thats me done.

Never had a club damaged flying to many different places, i'd imagine large international carriers take more care than your usual budget domestic airlines.

I might have just jixed it right there.

Taking the heads off the woods requires a good club building contact at the destination you are flying to though.. :swoon:

I am guessing his woods are the adjustable heads you can easily screw off and on.

Nope, i meant the actual heads. I don't have a full JDM bag so i have adjustable woods.

If traveling frequently a hard travel case is better than shipping in the long run. I've just never had a problem travelling with those basic precautions, even back in the day of glued heads. But if you feel you can get your money's worth of use out of a hard case it's worth investing.
